You Can Purchase a New BMW With the Discounts GMC Dealers Are Offering on the Hummer EV | Carscoops
The GMC Hummer EV, which once commanded supercar prices, is now attracting significant discounts as inventory builds up.
Dealers are currently slashing prices by tens of thousands on the GMC Hummer EV. Previously listed at up to $250K, some are now struggling to sell for less than $100K. GM’s DRAC loaner program is contributing even more discounted models to the market.
When the GMC Hummer EV was released, it created a frenzy. Enthusiasts were excited for its comeback, celebrities endorsed it, and initial units sold for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Dealers marked up the prices significantly, but the landscape has shifted dramatically since then.
Now, even with discounts that can exceed $40,000, GM is having trouble selling this powerful electric vehicle. To put it in context, the discounts alone surpass the cost of a brand-new BMW 228 Gran Coupe, which starts at $39,600 in the US.
Market Scenario
However, this doesn't mean GMC's truck is suddenly a fantastic bargain. Expressway GMC in Mount Vernon, Indiana, showcases the current situation effectively. A 2024 Hummer EV SUV 3X Omega Edition is priced at $99,780, which includes a rebate of $42,550.
Moreover, Jerry’s Buick GMC in Weatherford, Texas, is not far behind, offering a discount of $40,648 on another Omega Edition. It's worth noting that the Omega Edition is essentially a fully-equipped Hummer EV with all the premium features, including a distinctive matte Neptune Blue paint.
Despite its lavish features, the high price tag has deterred potential buyers.
Excess Inventory Challenges
GMC provides an online platform to find available units nationwide, revealing that there are 130 Omega Editions awaiting buyers, along with another 155 Hummer EVs resting on dealer lots.
These figures only represent the 2024 model year vehicles, which have been available since late 2023. Furthermore, there are over 2,300 units from the 2025 model year and an additional 1,816 2026 units already present on dealer lots.
In total, if you're interested in purchasing a GMC Hummer EV, there are over 4,400 available. To facilitate sales, GM implements a program known as Dealer Rent A Car (DRAC), where dealers use Hummer EVs temporarily as loaners. After a few thousand miles, these vehicles are sold at substantial discounts.
The takeaway? For those who resisted early markups, patience has ultimately been rewarded—some are benefiting to the tune of six-figure savings.
