The 2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer represents a thorough reimagining. It now prominently features a Jeep badge on the hood, resolving any brand identity confusion; it starts at $64,740, which is about $20,000 lower than its predecessor because the non-Grand version has been discontinued; and it introduces a range-extended electric powertrain option, a first for SUVs in the U.S. The pressing question remains: Will these changes be sufficient to persuade consumers to purchase it?

To begin with the design, the front fascia has been significantly redesigned for 2026, taking cues from the all-electric Wagoneer S. The seven-slot grille has been raised and tightened, enhanced by a refreshed LED lighting signature integrated into the headlights and fog lights. The lower grille is also larger now, aiding in cooling. At the rear, the alterations are subtle, with the most notable change being the full-width taillight.

Stellantis’ standard engine is still the twin-turbo 3.0-liter Hurricane inline-six, delivering 420 horsepower and 468 lb-ft of torque. Jeep CEO Bob Broderdorf mentioned during a media briefing that currently, only the standard-output version is available for the 2026 models. Those seeking more power will need to wait for the later-available range-extended EV option.

This powertrain bears a striking resemblance to the one Ram will deploy in its electrified pickup. It features a substantial 92 kilowatt-hour battery, which Jeep believes will achieve over 500 miles of range when combined with the onboard 130-kilowatt generator powered by a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6. Notably, that gasoline engine does not drive the wheels. The electric motors are anticipated to generate 647 hp and 620 lb-ft of torque—sufficient for the Grand Wagoneer to accelerate to 60 mph in just five seconds.

I’m somewhat surprised to see Jeep electrify the Grand Wagoneer, especially with the resurgence of the Hemi V8, but perhaps that’s just my perspective.

The Grand Wagoneer boasts numerous screens, and Jeep has enhanced the heads-up display to provide a broader and clearer view of information.

Further efforts to streamline the Grand Wagoneer lineup include a simplified trim structure. There is the base model—simply named Grand Wagoneer—alongside Limited and Summit versions. Larger families can opt for the longer-wheelbase L model, which is available in all the same trims.

Officially, the Grand Wagoneer is much more affordable than before, starting around $85,000. However, keep in mind that the now-discontinued non-Grand Wagoneer previously started at approximately $60,000. So, the entry price is over $5,000 higher now, but Jeep insists that the new Grand Wagoneer comes better equipped, offering improved value overall.

From my perspective, it appears to be a modest enhancement. We’ll have to wait and see how the range-extended EV concept performs in real-world scenarios.
