In the third quarter, Ford achieved sales of 85,789 electrified vehicles, marking a 19.8% increase compared to the previous year.

The Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning both recorded their highest quarterly sales to date.

Hybrid models continue to dominate in volume, led by the F-150 and Maverick.

Ford recently announced its seventh consecutive month of growth, concluding a strong third quarter. Remarkably, it wasn't solely a few models that contributed to this success. In addition to popular internal combustion engine vehicles like the Bronco, Explorer, and Expedition, electrified vehicles across cars, trucks, and SUVs broke records. Here are the specifics.

Ford Sold More Than Twice As Many Electric Mustangs As Gas Ones

During the quarter, Ford and Lincoln combined sold 85,789 electrified vehicles, comprising both hybrids and pure battery-electric vehicles (BEVs). This represents a 19.8% increase from the previous year, making up 15.7% of the brand's overall sales mix. In the last quarter, electrified vehicles accounted for just 13.5% of sales.

Undoubtedly, a significant portion of those sales came from customers eager to secure a tax credit before it expired on September 30. However, Ford and GM appear to have identified a loophole to extend this benefit a bit longer, as we reported yesterday.

      Battery Gains Build Momentum

This trend is also reflected in the notable increase in Ford's BEV sales, with 30,612 electric vehicles delivered during the quarter. This marks a 30.2% rise compared to the same period in 2024. Leading the charge was the Mustang Mach-E, achieving its best quarter since its 2020 launch, with sales climbing 50.7% to 20,177 units. The F-150 Lightning also recorded a record quarter, selling 10,005 trucks, an almost 40% increase.

Hybrids still constitute the bulk of Ford's electrified sales, with 55,177 units sold. The F-150 Hybrid maintained its status as the top-selling full-size hybrid truck in America, with 22,212 sales. The Maverick Hybrid continued to dominate the midsize hybrid pickup segment, achieving 63,516 sales, an 11.5% increase.

Andrew Frick, president of Ford Blue and Model e, commented that the results showcase the company’s balanced approach to powertrains. “We witnessed strong performance across gas, hybrid, and electrified powertrains, while simultaneously expanding our paid software solutions, all integrated into vehicles such as the Expedition, Explorer, and F-150.”

      Balancing Old and New

While some major automakers are adapting to a transforming market, Ford appears to be on a path of continuous improvement. It is likely to surpass GM and Stellantis combined in electrified sales this year, all while enjoying success with ICE-powered vehicles as well.
