In the United States, prices for the Wrangler 4xe start just above $50,000.
The hybrid Jeep is among the best-selling PHEVs, but its value is declining rapidly.
This particular model's resale price suffered due to a minor accident noted on its Carfax report.
Few anticipate that a new Jeep Wrangler, or any typical vehicle, will retain its value after leaving the dealership. Depreciation is a natural process, yet we believe that the first owner of this 2024 Wrangler Sport S 4xe didn't expect to lose nearly half of the purchase price after only 4,300 miles (6,920 km).
When initially ordered, this Wrangler had a substantial sticker price of $60,840, which is over $10,000 above the MSRP, thanks to features like the $3,995 one-touch power-top and the $1,595 Technology Group that includes Alpine speakers, a vehicle-to-load system, and active noise cancellation. Additionally, it has the $1,995 Convenience Group, which comes with heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a remote start system.
A Significant Drop in Value
Earlier this week, the off-road vehicle was put up for auction on Cars & Bids and sold for just $32,750. That represents a depreciation of $28,090 from its original sticker price—an astounding amount for a vehicle of this age and mileage.
The value of this Jeep is undoubtedly affected by the fact that the Carfax report indicates it was involved in a minor accident earlier this year. According to the report, such minor damage is usually only cosmetic, consisting mainly of dents and scratches on the body. Fortunately for the auction's winner, it seems to have been repaired, and there are no visible signs of external damage.
Cars & Bids
While the Wrangler 4xe's appeal is undeniable, reflected in its status as one of the top-selling plug-in hybrids in the US, it is not considered inexpensive. With a starting price of $50,000, it is approximately $18,000 more than the most affordable gas-only Wrangler available, the two-door Sport. Moreover, it is nearly $10,000 costlier than a comparable four-door Sport S with the standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V6.
So, is this auctioned Wrangler 4xe a savvy purchase, providing the new owner with a significant discount on the original price, or is it likely to continue losing value over time? Share your thoughts in the comments.
