Mattel and Hot Wheels have introduced buildable models of the Audi RS2 Avant and R8 LMS for collectors around the globe.
The new products include a 1:32 scale Audi RS2 Avant and a 1:16 scale Audi R8 LMS. The RS2 Avant, which was tuned by Porsche, was produced for just over a year in the 1990s.
The RS2 model is priced at $19.99, while the R8 LMS model starts at $49.99 worldwide.
If you appreciate classic Audi road and racing cars, there's great news for you. A collaboration between Mattel Brick Shop, Hot Wheels, and Audi has resulted in the release of new 1:32 and 1:16 scale models of the RS2 Avant and R8 LMS.
The first release features a 1:32 scale version of the legendary RS2. Produced for a short time in the mid-1990s, the RS2 was notable as Audi's first RS-badged model, developed in partnership with Porsche.
The RS2 boasts several impressive features, particularly its 2.2-liter turbocharged five-cylinder engine, modified by Porsche to produce 311 hp and 302 lb-ft (410 Nm) of torque. In its prime, it could accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in only 4.8 seconds.
With fewer than 2,900 units manufactured, spotting one on the road is quite uncommon. The Mattel model retails for just $19.99 and is available at select retailers worldwide.
Next is the Audi R8 LMS. This GT3 racing car debuted in 2009 and has secured seven wins at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, along with numerous championship titles globally. The Mattel version is a 1:16 scale model of the race car, featuring a functional steering wheel and interchangeable decals, splitters, and spoilers, starting at $49.99.
“Collaborations between Mattel Brick Shop and Hot Wheels offer adult collectors and automotive enthusiasts a new way to engage with their favorite vehicles, such as these iconic Audi models, through building,” said Ted Wu, global head of vehicles and building sets at Mattel. “Hot Wheels partnered with Audi for its first official casting in 1993, and we’re excited to further this relationship with one of our newest brands in the building category, Mattel Brick Shop.”
You'll need to wait a bit longer before you can assemble these models in person, as they won't be available on shelves until later this fall. Currently, they can be pre-ordered through Amazon, Target, Walmart, and Mattel Creations.
