The affected vehicles include the Volvo XC60, XC90, V60 CC, and V90 CC.
Owners will start receiving notifications in late October.
Volvo has not confirmed any injuries associated with the seat belt issue.
Seat belts are often overlooked today, but the current three-point design was pioneered by Volvo, making it the first automaker to adopt this lifesaving feature, which has since become a worldwide standard and is credited with safeguarding millions.
Now, as a reminder that even safety innovators can encounter issues, Volvo is recalling over 1,300 vehicles in the United States due to a fault in certain seat belt retractors.

The company states that some models are installed with seat belt retractors that have a damaged torsion bar. Volvo indicates that if this bar fails in a collision, the shoulder belt may extend uncontrollably, which could diminish its capacity to secure occupants and heighten the risk of injury.
Issue Linked to Supplier
Volvo has attributed the issue to one of its sub-suppliers, noting that the torsion rods might have been compromised when a component jammed during manufacturing. The automaker emphasizes that the fault originates from the supplier’s production process, not its own assembly.
In total, 1,355 vehicles are affected by the recall. This includes 407 units of the 2026 XC90 made between June 18, 2025, and July 2, 2025, along with 914 units of the 2026 XC60 manufactured from June 23, 2025, to July 9, 2025. Additionally, 16 Volvo V90 CC models built from June 19, 2025, to July 10, 2025, and 18 Volvo V60 CC models produced from July 2, 2025, to July 4, 2025, are also included.
Volvo has not indicated whether it is aware of any injuries related to the seat belt defect. What is known is that owners will be informed of the recall starting October 30, and dealerships have been directed to replace potentially affected front seat belts on both the left and right sides.
