In contrast to the Revuelto, which is expected to lose value in the near term, this Diablo may continue to appreciate.

A rare 2001 Diablo VT 6.0 with a gated manual transmission is currently up for auction on Bring a Trailer.

This example, finished in Viola Ophelia, has been driven less than 18,000 miles since its purchase.

It features a 6.0-liter naturally aspirated V12 that generates 543 hp and 457 lb-ft of torque.

Becoming a Lamborghini owner has never been inexpensive, but the current market is presenting some surprising trends. In the US, the plug-in hybrid Revuelto starts at just over $600,000. Interestingly, with the same amount, you could acquire a pristine, low-mileage 2001 Diablo. Enthusiasm for classic Lamborghinis has grown significantly, leading to a bidding war that has already doubled this vehicle’s original price.

The first thing that stands out about this Diablo is its color. The stunning shade of purple, known as Viola Ophelia, perfectly complements the supercar’s design. After all, if you’re driving a vehicle that makes an impression wherever it goes, its color might as well join in on the spectacle.

      Paint Concerns

There has been some discussion concerning whether the paint is completely original, as an invoice mentions “Bodywork – repaint as necessary” for $8,600 before taxes. The seller clarified, “It’s possible the paint was touched up as needed, likely for a paint correction detail followed by the addition of paint protection film (PPF), but we cannot confirm that.”

He added, “There’s no mention of a complete repaint being done. We can certainly say that a Lamborghini Diablo couldn’t be entirely repainted in an exceptionally rare color like Viola Ophelia for just $8,600.”

A former owner, who bought the car for $235,000 in 2015 and sold it for $265,000 the following year, also chimed in, stating, “I don’t remember the car ever being repainted. It has always been Viola.”

Contrasting the paint are 18-inch Speedline wheels with a silver finish, accompanied by Brembo brake calipers that were painted yellow in 2014. Given that this Diablo has a mileage of less than 18,000 miles (approximately 29,000 km), its exterior is in pristine condition, showing minimal signs of wear. Even the engine bay appears brand new and features a matching Viola Ophelia cover.

The interior is just as stunning as the exterior, adorned in Bianco white leather with a Marrone suede dashboard, a black headliner, and numerous carbon fiber accents. Perhaps the most attractive aspect of this Diablo VT 6.0 is its gated five-speed manual transmission, a rarity in modern Lamborghinis.

      Power Without Filters

Located behind the shifter is the 6.0-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine that delivers 543 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque. All four wheels receive power, a beneficial feature since this generation of Diablo lacks traction control. It offers a raw driving experience that few modern vehicles can replicate.

Currently, the car is listed on Bring a Trailer, with bidding already exceeding $525,000 and time still remaining in the auction. For those keeping tabs, that’s more than double what the previous owner paid a decade ago in 2015. For collectors and enthusiasts, this Diablo is not just a striking supercar; it’s a snapshot of Lamborghini at its most dynamic, prior to the introduction of electronic safety features and hybrid technology that transformed the brand.
