Labor Day weekend in the United States is typically filled with various road hazards. In this instance, the driver of the Ford Mustang didn't need to be concerned about other vehicles or wildlife; he removed himself from the situation with some poor driving decisions. Fortunately, he survived to recount the experience despite rolling his car in a secluded area.
The incident occurred on August 31, near mile marker 27 in Park County, Wyoming, just east of Yellowstone National Park. A tourist captured footage of the Mustang speeding down the road before reaching an extended left-hand hairpin turn. Near the turn's exit, the vehicle veered off the road, going wider than it could handle, struck what seems to be a rock, and flipped through the air.
Despite the severity of the crash, the driver reportedly did not suffer any major injuries. The Wyoming Highway Patrol stated that he was flown to Billings for evaluation and was discharged later that same evening. Escaping with only minor injuries was the luckiest aspect of his day, but officers ensured that he received a ticket for careless driving. They reminded drivers that sharp mountain roads like the Beartooth Highway require heightened caution.
"Make wise choices on the road, everyone. Stay alert, pay attention, follow traffic laws, and drive slower," the WHP advised in a social media post. The incident also prompted a response from the Park County Sheriff’s Office, Montana Highway Patrol, Park County Fire, and a local towing service. The cause of the crash appears to be simply a lack of driving skill.
Although another vehicle was present in the oncoming lane at the time of the Mustang's crash, it did not seem to influence the driver's actions. The Mustang did not swerve sharply at the last moment or show signs of losing control. It seemed as if the front tires simply lacked the necessary grip to manage the turn. This experience should serve as a lesson for the driver.
