Did Tesla Unveil a Concealed CyberSUV That Was Clearly Visible? | Carscoops
Fans have spotted a potential CyberSUV in a recent Tesla video, suggesting a forthcoming full-size electric SUV.
The “Sustainable Abundance – Master Plan IV” video showcased scale models of an SUV inspired by the Cybertruck in the background.
The CyberSUV could feature a three-row interior, cutting-edge technology, and the rugged styling synonymous with the Cybertruck. While Tesla has not confirmed any plans, they might be assessing interest in a full-size electric SUV.
Tesla may have hinted strongly at the possibility of a Cybertruck-inspired SUV. In their latest video, clay models of the upcoming Cybercab were prominently displayed, but the true surprise was in the background, where scale models resembling three-row Tesla SUVs inspired by the Cybertruck were seen.
Elon Musk's company is known for its secrecy regarding design processes. Unlike most automakers who experience leaks, Tesla rarely allowed significant information about the Cybertruck or the second-generation Roadster to emerge prior to their releases. This raises questions as to why the company would release a video featuring these models in the background.
The notion of a 'CyberSUV' has been speculated since the Cybertruck's introduction in 2019. The concept is straightforward but could be revolutionary: transform the rugged stainless steel design of the pickup into a three-row SUV.
This would essentially replace the truck bed with a more family-oriented interior while retaining core features of the Cybertruck, including the 48-volt system, steer-by-wire technology, and adaptive suspension.
Such a model would provide Tesla with a full-size SUV to compete with vehicles like the Cadillac Escalade IQ, Rivian R1S, and Kia EV9. The Model X is slightly too compact for this segment, while the Model Y L serves a different purpose and may not even be available in the U.S. Moreover, there is a strong demand for rugged off-road vehicles, but aside from the Cybertruck, Tesla currently lacks offerings in this category.
Nonetheless, there is a significant possibility that the CyberSUV could end up being merely a conceptual design. Teslarati highlights that Tesla’s Q4 2024 Shareholder Deck explicitly stated no future vehicles would incorporate a stainless steel exoskeleton similar to that of the Cybertruck.
Nevertheless, if Tesla finds a way to adapt the majority of the Cybertruck's chassis and structural designs, it could optimize the production capacities initially intended for the truck.
For the time being, the CyberSUV remains a notion subject to speculation. If Tesla is indeed contemplating this model, it could potentially become the brand's next major success and may even influence the future design language across their entire lineup.
