Porsche Hints at Upcoming Munich Unveiling, Potentially the 911 Turbo | Carscoops
The revamped 911 Turbo is anticipated to adopt hybrid technology and deliver up to 700 hp.
Porsche is preparing to unveil a new 911 just before the Munich Motor Show.
This enigmatic model is likely to be the updated 911 Turbo and Turbo S.
Both variants are expected to feature a hybrid powertrain that may generate as much as 700 hp.
The Munich Motor Show begins next week, and it seems Porsche will take advantage of the occasion to showcase a new 911. While the company remains tight-lipped about the details, they have confirmed the presentation of a mysterious new model on September 7.
Porsche has released limited information, including a teaser image of a 911 coupe covered by a sheet. Although the details are scarce, it features a prominent rear spoiler. The automaker also hinted that it will be another legendary model that’s “faster than schnell.”
This points to the possibility of a refreshed 911 Turbo. Although verification is pending, spy photographers have spotted lightly camouflaged prototypes sporting a new front bumper with vertical fins in the air intakes. We can also anticipate updated lighting elements, a redesigned rear bumper, and altered exhaust tips.
Interior enhancements are expected to include a new 12.6-inch digital instrument cluster and an updated 10.9-inch infotainment system. Additionally, there will likely be a new start button along with various other minor upgrades.
The most significant question revolves around the powertrain. Currently, the model is equipped with a twin-turbo 3.7-liter six-cylinder engine that produces 572 hp (427 kW / 580 PS) and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque. The 911 Turbo S variant achieves 640 hp (477 kW / 650 PS) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm).
Porsche has indicated plans for the car to go hybrid, likely following the example of the 911 GTS, which features a 3.6-liter six-cylinder boxer engine, a 1.9 kWh battery pack, and an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission with an integrated motor that produces up to 54 hp (40 kW / 54 PS). This setup allows for a combined output of 532 hp (397 kW / 539 PS) and 449 lb-ft (608 Nm).
When this model was launched, Porsche highlighted it boasted 59 hp (44 kW / 60 PS) more than its predecessor. If a similar power increase is applied to the Turbo lineup, we could see outputs of approximately 630 hp (470 kW / 639 PS) and 700 hp (522 kW / 710 PS).
