A brief production cycle and lackluster sales may have determined the outcome for these new electric vehicles.

Mercedes is reportedly set to discontinue production of the EQE and EQE SUV by 2026.

Both vehicles will have a brief lifespan, with the SUV having launched in 2022.

Earlier this year, the company revealed plans for a conventional E-Class electric vehicle.

The Mercedes EQE was unveiled at the 2021 Munich Motor Show, followed by the release of the EQE SUV about a year later. Although both models are still quite new, reports indicate they will be phased out next year.

As reported by Autocar, this decision follows an internal review of Mercedes' electric vehicle strategy, aiming to reduce redundancy. Additionally, sales have been disappointing, with combined EQE sales in the United States dropping by 39% last year to 11,660 units.

This decision is not entirely unexpected, as earlier reports suggested the manufacturer would cease production of some EQ models tailored for the U.S. market. Regardless, the EQE starts at $64,950 and goes up to $96,600 for the AMG variant, which offers a disappointing range of 220 miles (354 km).

The EQE SUV also starts at $64,950, although its AMG version is priced higher at $97,400. On a positive note, this crossover provides a range of 230 miles (370 km).

According to the report, both models will be “indirectly replaced” by the forthcoming C-Class and GLC electric vehicles. Nonetheless, Mercedes has previously confirmed plans for an E-Class electric vehicle, which would serve as a direct successor to the EQE—assuming the program remains active. When this model was previewed earlier this year, the company indicated it would forgo its curvy design in favor of a traditional “3-box limousine design” alongside a “very status-oriented wheelbase.”
