What was intended to be a day at the racetrack turned into a financial calamity when the BC Highway Patrol impounded a Lamborghini Gallardo.
A 26-year-old male was caught in Canada driving at 130 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. The vehicle was impounded for seven days, and the fines totaled over $2,500. According to the BC Highway Patrol, the driver missed an opportunity for a safe day on the track.
There are unfortunate days, and then there are days where you have to break the news to your mother that her Lamborghini is in an impound lot. This is the predicament faced by a 26-year-old man from North Vancouver. The BC Highway Patrol stated that he was caught driving at 130 km/h (80 mph) in an 80 km/h (49 mph) zone. Ironically, he was en route to a track day.
This incident took place on June 1, but officers are only now releasing details. At around 1:15 p.m., officers noticed the driver in a grey Lamborghini Gallardo. In British Columbia, speeding by 40 km/h or more over the limit leads to an automatic vehicle impound. The driver’s justifications did little to delay the consequences.
From Track Day to Tow Day
“The driver claimed he was heading to a racetrack. If he had been more responsible, he could have enjoyed a fantastic day at the track. Instead, he had an uncomfortable chat with his mom,” remarked Cpl. Michael McLaughlin of the BC Highway Patrol.
“Our main goal is to ensure the safety of you and other road users,” he added. “If that doesn’t persuade you to slow down, you might want to consider whether you’d prefer to burn thousands of your own dollars.”

He wasn’t joking about those penalties. Along with the seven-day impound, the driver received a $368 fine for excessive speeding, a $109 ticket for not displaying a front license plate, along with towing and storage fees, and three years of costly “high-risk driver” insurance premiums.
An Expensive Mistake
All of this brings the total charges to well over $2,500 CAD, not to mention the costs associated with disappointing his mother. Hopefully, the driver understands that this situation serves as a $2,500 lesson on how quickly things can unravel when you treat public roads as if they are a warm-up lap.
