Chinese Vacuum Cleaner Manufacturer Aims to Create the World’s Fastest Hypercar | Carscoops
Dreame aims to rival Bugatti and Koenigsegg in the high-end hypercar sector.
Based in China, Dreame Technology is looking to break into the automotive field. The company, which specializes in vacuum cleaners and household appliances, is planning to manufacture an electric hypercar with aspirations of setting a top speed record.
Chinese manufacturers have increasingly been setting speed and performance records in recent years, often surpassing their Western competitors. Now, an unexpected contender has emerged: a brand better known for its vacuum cleaners is declaring its ambition to create “the world’s fastest car.” This is a bold step for a company previously focused on cleaning products.
Dreame Technology, which brands itself as the “Apple of China,” has revealed its automotive intentions on Chinese social media, taking inspiration from tech giants like Xiaomi and Huawei. However, Dreame is specifically targeting the elite hypercar market, setting its sights on competing with Bugatti and Koenigsegg to achieve speed records.
It’s important to note that Dyson, another company known for vacuum cleaners, once considered entering the electric vehicle market to compete with Tesla but ultimately abandoned the effort, deeming it “not commercially viable.” Dreame is clearly hoping for a more favorable outcome.
*The Ambitious Plan*
Dreame has stated it is not starting from zero. Instead, it intends to utilize China's well-established EV supply chain and manufacturing capabilities, positioning itself “on the shoulders of giants.” This suggests potential partnerships with experienced suppliers or automakers, which could lend more credibility to the initiative.
Dreame’s history of innovation may bolster its efforts. By the end of last year, the company had filed over 6,000 patents, some reportedly related to electric vehicle technology. As per the Chinese media outlet Lyiou, Dreame Auto, the brand’s newly established automotive division, already employs about 1,000 people, including experts from the automotive manufacturing industry.
While this number seems impressive, it remains uncertain if it possesses the depth of expertise necessary to take on industry leaders like Bugatti and Koenigsegg.
The same source indicates that the electric hypercar is expected to make its debut in 2027. It is uncertain if the Bugatti-like design featured in the official teaser reflects the actual model in development. Regardless, it will be intriguing to see if the final product lives up to the ambitious vision that accompanies it.
*Record-Breaking Rivals*
To gauge Dreame's competition, it's important to consider current records. The SSC Tuatara currently holds the official speed record for a production car at 474.8 km/h (295 mph), achieved in 2022. Meanwhile, a prototype of the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ reached a speed of 490.48 km/h (304.77 mph) in 2019; however, it cannot be counted as a record since it was not verified in the opposite direction.
In August 2025, the BYD YangWang U9 Track Edition set the record for the fastest production EV, reaching 472.41 km/h (293.54 mph) at a German test facility, surpassing the Rimac Nevera R, which had achieved 431.45 km/h (268.2 mph) in July 2025.
New challengers are emerging. Koenigsegg, Hennessey, and Bugatti are all working on projects aimed at breaking the symbolic 500 km/h (310 mph) threshold.
*Dreame’s Statement*
Here is a translated version of Dreame’s official announcement shared with employees and the public:
Dear Dreame colleagues: Today, we officially announce our plan to create the world’s fastest car. This decision was not made lightly. From our initial car development plan at Tsinghua SkyWorks in 2013 to now standing at the forefront of the global clean energy sector, we have been waiting for twelve years for Dreame’s “opportunity.”
We hold this industry in high regard. Car manufacturing is the pinnacle of industry, representing the ultimate technological battleground, and a demanding, life-or-death pursuit. The competition is multifaceted, comprehensive, and intense, challenging not only technological innovation and the speed of iterations but also system capabilities, supply chain integration, brand positioning, and global market insights. We recognize that only with reverence can we see the path ahead clearly, and only with humility can we advance further.
Nevertheless, we believe that great dreams stem from fearlessness. Our fearlessness is grounded in clarity. We are not adventurers attempting to “build from scratch,” but rather we build on the foundations established by giants in Chinese manufacturing. Numerous Chinese companies have, through decades of effort, developed the world’s most advanced electric vehicle supply chain and technology ecosystem.
Our mission is to achieve global optimization: utilizing the right products, strategies, and pace to introduce Chinese smart manufacturing to the high-end global market. Our fearlessness comes from
