After Christian Horner was dismissed from Red Bull Racing last month, rumors began circulating on social media suggesting that the veteran team principal was seeking a position with a competing Formula 1 team. One of my favorite memes from the situation featured a mock LinkedIn profile for Horner with the caption “#OpenToWork.” Among the rumors was one about Horner potentially joining Cadillac, which, despite already having a team principal, is still in the process of hiring and integrating much of its staff. This speculation has now been dismissed.
During a press conference to announce Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas as its first drivers, Dan Towriss, CEO of the Cadillac Formula 1 Team, firmly denied any connection with the ousted executive.
“There have been no discussions with Christian Horner, and we have no intention of doing so,” Towriss stated. “I’d like to officially put that rumor to rest. Our support, confidence, and backing are with [current team principal] Graeme Lowdon.”
While opinions on Horner differ within the paddock, many believe he is not welcome in the boardrooms of various automakers due to the 2024 Google Drive scandal. His (and Red Bull’s) response to allegations of inappropriate behavior from a female employee is regarded by many as unjust and another example of how those in positions of power often evade real accountability for their actions.
Whether it’s this factor or something else that prevents Horner from securing another role in F1 remains to be seen. Notably, the sport seems to have a tendency to forget past controversies, as evident with Flavio Briatore's return to F1 following his blatant manipulation of a grand prix. Alternatively, it could be that morality is not a significant consideration for some teams when making hiring choices. Regardless, Cadillac's leadership does not seem interested in the former Red Bull chief's talents.
