Bentley has unveiled a new ombre paint option by Mulliner that takes two people over 56 hours to produce a distinctive gradient.
Porsche, on the other hand, has launched a retro-themed livery for the 911 GT3 to commemorate ANDIAL.
Both Bentley and Porsche, as members of the Volkswagen Group, showcased their colorful expressions at Monterey Car Week. However, while they shared a common theme, their approaches differed.
Beginning with Bentley, the luxury brand introduced the new Ombre by Mulliner paint option, which is described as one of the "most complex paint offerings to date," requiring over 56 hours to achieve a colorful transition between two different colors.
The initial application is on a custom Continental GT Speed, featuring a gradient that transitions from Topaz in the front to Windsor Blue in the rear. Additionally, the 22-inch wheels have a two-tone finish with black and Topaz in the front and black and Windsor Blue in the back.
This color transition is reflected inside the car as well, with light blue Topaz leather in the front passenger area and darker leather with Dragonfly accents in the rear. Other features include Satin Beluga painted veneers, a Naim audio system, and Dark Chrome Interior Specification.
Although this is a one-off model, Mulliner plans to offer an ombre option in three different combinations. This is a limited offering for a team known for its customization, but Bentley clarified that due to the intricate nature of the paint blending, the color choices needed to be "specifically curated."
In contrast, Porsche has taken a different path by commemorating the 50th anniversary of ANDIAL with a livery package for the 911 GT3 inspired by the ANDIAL 935-L, priced at $7,680.
Although the cost is high, Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur will apply a tri-color partial wrap along with decals that highlight a retro theme. Customers can choose their own number for the vehicle and can also have their name and country flag displayed above the doors.
Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur will provide additional options, including a “specially painted key, key pouch, owner’s manual case, floor mats, and door sill guards … featuring the ANDIAL logo.” They also mentioned a retrofit wrap for customers who already possess a GT3.
For those unfamiliar with ANDIAL, it was a racing and tuning firm established by Arnold Wagner (“AN”), Dieter Inzenhofer (“DI”), and Alwin Springer (“AL”) in 1975, recognized as one of America’s premier authorities on Porsche performance tuning for both track and street applications.
