Ford's 98th Recall May Leave Owners Uninformed | Carscoops
Thousands of Ford and Lincoln vehicles are at risk of losing their headlights and turn signals.
Ford and Lincoln are recalling nearly 22,000 vehicles due to a lighting malfunction.
A burnt diode can lead to the failure of headlights, turn signals, and taillights.
This recall affects the 2025 Mustang, Mustang Mach-E, and Lincoln Nautilus.
With 98 recalls in under nine months, Ford’s quality is facing significant issues, and the situation is particularly affecting the 2025 Mustang, Mustang Mach-E, and Lincoln Nautilus.
The most recent recall involves 21,765 vehicles that may have LED Driver Modules with burnt diodes. This issue could result in the failure of headlights, daytime running lights, front position lights, and front turn signals. In the case of the Nautilus, the failure could also extend to the rear taillights, rear turn signals, and rear position lights.
A majority of the recalled vehicles are Mustangs, and the government reported that the issue was initially observed in March when a Nautilus at the Changan Ford Hangzhou plant in China was found to have a non-functioning headlight assembly during inspection. By the end of that month, another eight vehicles were identified with similar issues.
An investigation was launched, and a teardown revealed burnt Schottky diodes in the LED Driver Modules. The exact cause of the burnt diodes is still being investigated, but Ford opted to recall the vehicles nonetheless.
The automaker is aware of nine reports from the plant and eight warranty claims related to the Nautilus in China. To date, there have been no reports of issues with the Mustang or Mustang Mach-E.
If a malfunction occurs, drivers will receive a warning stating “Advanced Front Lighting Feature Temporarily Unavailable,” and the turn signal indicator on the instrument cluster will flash rapidly.
Owners of the Nautilus and Mustang Mach-E will be advised to take their vehicles to a dealership, where technicians will replace the left- and right-hand LED Driver Modules. Mustang owners will also need to bring their vehicles to a dealership for inspection of their LED Driver Modules to determine if replacement is required based on serial numbers.
