Voyah’s Taishan SUV aims to compete with Rolls-Royce by offering luxury and advanced technology.
A prototype was recently seen in Shanghai, camouflaged in a Louis Vuitton design.
It is expected to come in both plug-in hybrid and fully electric versions, boasting up to 657 horsepower.
Voyah, one of Dongfeng's brands, has a range of impressive vehicles, but its latest model, codenamed Taishan, may be its most ambitious yet. This luxury SUV is positioned to challenge the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, with early sightings showing a heavily camouflaged test vehicle that obscures most of its notable design features.
The company unveiled photos of a camouflaged Taishan parked next to a Cullinan. Voyah’s CEO, Lu Fang, noted that the prototype is being subject to "intensive summer testing" and confirmed it will come equipped with "Huawei’s latest ADS Ultra four-LiDAR intelligent driving solution."
To generate interest for the model, Voyah recently wrapped one of its prototypes in a dark brown, Louis Vuitton-themed camouflage and displayed it outside LV’s ‘The Louis’ exhibition space in central Shanghai, which is designed to resemble a large ship. Voyah aims to attract affluent customers with its new SUV, eager to demonstrate its competitiveness against the finest offerings from Europe.
The SUV’s front is entirely concealed, hiding significant design elements, though some features are visible, including smooth door surfaces, silver window trims, and flush door handles. A fixed LiDAR unit is situated just above the windshield.
Reports suggest the SUV will measure over 5.3 meters in length with a 3.1-meter wheelbase, enabling Voyah to implement a 2+2+2 seating arrangement with six seats. Since the brand aims to compete with Rolls-Royce and Li Auto’s L9, a luxurious cabin filled with high-quality materials and screens is anticipated.
Speculations from local media indicate both plug-in hybrid and battery-electric variants are likely. The plug-in hybrid may resemble that of Voyah's new Passion L luxury sedan, which pairs a 1.5-liter turbo engine with dual electric motors for a total output of 657 horsepower.
