The individual who declined an offer of $220,000 along with three substitute properties for relocation now finds himself in a situation where his home can only be accessed by traversing a sizable waterpipe.

The homeowner was reportedly extended an offer of $220,000 and three alternative properties. Huang Ping turned down the government's proposal, yet the construction of the highway continued as planned. In an interview with the media, the grandfather expressed his regret over rejecting the offer.

Residing northwest of Shanghai, China, the homeowner is now faced with constant road noise following the construction of a new highway surrounding his residence in Jinxi. Images circulating on social media resemble scenes from a dystopian movie, but the reality for the obstinate homeowner is quite genuine.

In China, a property like his is referred to as a ‘nail house,’ which remains untouched after the owner refuses a buyout from the government for a development. Reports indicate that Huang Ping was offered approximately 1.6 million yuan (around $222,000) and three replacement properties in exchange for relocating. He declined the offer, hoping for a more favorable deal.

However, no improved offer materialized, and local authorities proceeded with the construction of the new highway regardless. The man's house is now positioned directly in the highway's path, which momentarily splits and curves around it.

The noise from the construction is reportedly so overwhelming that Ping, who lives with his 11-year-old grandson, typically spends most of their time in the town center, only returning home at night when the construction work ceases.

According to the homeowner, he now regrets not accepting the government’s buyout. He stated, “If I could turn back time, I would agree to the demolition conditions they offered. Now it feels like I lost a big bet. I regret it a bit.”

Currently, the only access to his home is through a large pipe running beneath the highway. While the property is reachable when dry, there are concerns regarding potential flooding during rainstorms.
