Grattan Raceway is a hidden treasure in Western Michigan, located roughly two and a half hours from Detroit. It remains consistently on the market. We covered it in 2023, and at that time, no official price was released. Several individuals made unverified claims that the track's owners were seeking $7 million, but the latest listing indicates that the asking price has risen to $15 million.

From what I can discern, there are no new additions justifying the increased price. The property spans 190 acres and includes a well-designed 2.0-mile road course with a 3,200-foot straight. It also features a 1.25-mile motocross track within its boundaries. The facilities offer complete concessions and covered seating for spectators, along with ponds and a private pool. While it’s undoubtedly a stunning track, I'm uncertain why it would attract buyers at a higher price when it didn't sell previously for less in this market.

Grattan Raceway is situated in Belding, Michigan, approximately 30 minutes from Grand Rapids.

Kurt Faasen, co-owner of Grattan Raceway, stated to Fox 17, “I’m 72; it’s about time to consider that, you know, you can’t work forever, even though I probably would.” He recounted stories of celebrities who raced on the circuit, such as Paul Newman, Walter Payton, and Tom Cruise. The track has a rich 65-year legacy and has remained within the same family throughout that time.

Faasen expressed his hope that the racetrack would continue to operate for many years. “But, as you know, we have no control over that,” he noted.

Typically, once larger properties with motorsports facilities are acquired, they do not maintain their racing functions. As we've frequently reported, most are taken over by real estate developers who dismantle the tracks to create housing developments. Grattan Raceway, with over 4,000 feet of frontage along Muskrat Lake, seems particularly suitable for such a transformation, regardless of the asking price.

I do not wish for that to occur, but if someone plans to invest close to $15 million and aims to profit, it’s unlikely to be achieved through private track days and low-key weekly events.

Residents asserted that the seller had initially sought $7 million. If this is accurate, the price has more than doubled without any clear justification.
