Cadillac has taken note of the criticism—specifically from online communities mocking the charge port door mechanism of the Lyriq EV. It seems the brand took this feedback to heart.
The problem: Upon request, the door would pop out with a "boing" sound. However, the automaker has resolved this issue.
At the launch of the 2026 Cadillac Lyriq V in Seattle, Washington (look out for our review tomorrow), I noticed that the automaker has smoothened the operation of the charge port door mechanism.
The audible "boing" is eliminated, and now the movement is buttery smooth, although a bit slow.
Alex Doss, the lead development engineer for the Lyriq V, informed The Drive that the company altered the actual mechanism, not just the software, to enhance the operation of the charge port door.
This update was implemented as a running change at the end of the 2025 model year production, which means that the last batch of 2025 Lyriqs features the improved charge port door mechanism. All 2026 models and subsequent Lyriqs will include this updated mechanism.
Doss noted that earlier Lyriqs, including the preceding 2025 models and older versions, cannot be retrofitted since this is a hardware modification rather than a software update beneath the vehicle's metal exterior.
Now, the charge port door on the Lyriq operates as smoothly as the rest of this stunning luxury EV.
