The Hyundai Stargazer Cartenz and Cartenz X, featuring a design that some may find unappealing, have officially launched in Indonesia.

This three-row minivan and its crossover counterpart showcase both exterior and interior enhancements. They are equipped with a 1.5-liter engine that remains unchanged and comes standard with front-wheel drive.

Hyundai's updated budget minivan duo has arrived in Indonesia, boasting bolder aesthetics and upgraded technology to maintain competitiveness in a crowded market. With refined styling and practical interior improvements, the revamped Stargazer lineup aims to be a more memorable option for families.

The original Stargazer was introduced in 2022, followed by the crossover-inspired Stargazer X in 2023. However, Hyundai decided it was time for a refresh, providing the lineup with a more defined identity that distinguishes it from the larger, futuristic Staria. The new "Cartenz" name is derived from Puncak Cartenz, Indonesia’s highest mountain.

      Enhanced Design and Presence

The most significant change in this update is the front design, where a longer hood transitions the previous one-box shape, giving the van a more prominent look. The previous split headlights have been replaced with a more conventional configuration featuring single units and unique LED accents. The grille has also been enlarged, particularly on the Cartenz X, and is now complemented by a more substantial bumper design that enhances its visual heft.

The side profile remains recognizable, although the Cartenz X incorporates rugged elements such as plastic cladding around the wheel arches and taller roof rails. At the back, a redesigned bumper houses the license plate, replacing the earlier tailgate-mounted design. Slimmer LED taillights round out the updates with a contemporary appearance.

The Stargazer Cartenz has a length of 4,575 mm (180.1 inches), while the Cartenz X is slightly longer at 4,610 mm (181.5 inches), marking a 115 mm (4.5 inches) increase compared to previous models. Despite the extra length, the wheelbase remains the same at 2,780 mm (109.4 inches), and ground clearance is still a commendable 205 mm (8.1 inches).

The color options include Creamy White Pearl, Midnight Black Pearl, Magnetic Silver Metallic, and Titan Gray Metallic, along with the exclusive Gravity Gold Matte and Optic White Matte for the Stargazer Cartenz X. Wheel sizes vary between 16 and 17 inches, depending on the trim level.

      Three-Row Interior

The interior has been improved with a more unified digital layout. A newly designed dashboard integrates the screens more effectively, and the climate controls have been enhanced for better usability. The Cartenz X trim also features Shift-by-Wire technology, eliminating the traditional gear lever to create more space in the center console.

The minivan comes standard with seven seats arranged in three rows, while an optional Captain Seat layout allows for a six-seat configuration. The interior is predominantly black, although the top-tier trim also offers a beige option. Available features may include a ventilated, power-adjustable driver’s seat, wireless charging, navigation, a Bose audio system, Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, and a Blind-Spot View Monitor.

      No Changes Under the Hood

Despite the visual refresh, the mechanical specifications remain unchanged. Both models are powered by a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine that delivers 113 hp (85 kW / 115 PS) and 144 Nm (106 lb-ft) of torque. Power is directed to the front wheels through either a six-speed manual or a CVT.

The platform utilized is a stretched version shared with the Kia Carens and Carens Clavis minivans, along with the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos SUVs.

      Availability and Pricing

Hyundai describes the vehicle as “designed for Indonesian families and professionals,” but it will soon be exported to various international markets, with modifications made to suit regional preferences. Indonesia will handle production, and the previous model has already been delivered to markets such as the Middle East, the Philippines, Thailand, Brunei, and Vietnam, so this version is likely to follow a similar path.

The refreshed Stargazer was introduced at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) and is currently available for order. Prices start at Rp 269,900,000 ($16,600) and reach up to Rp 350,400,000 ($21,500) for the Stargazer Cartenz. The Cartenz X has a slightly higher price range of Rp 361,900,000 to Rp 391,900,000 ($22,200 to $24,100).

While these updated models are pricier than their predecessors, which are still available for purchase, the enhancements aim to justify the higher cost with additional features, improved styling, and a more refined interior experience.
