Acura Integra Type R Bidding Reaches $120,000 and Is Just Beginning | Carscoops
The DC2-gen Integra Type R is regarded as one of the best handling front-wheel-drive cars ever.
Acura produced only 1,173 Integra Type Rs for the 2001 model year in the US.
This Phoenix Yellow Integra Type R has only been driven for 4,800 miles.
Bidding on this vehicle has already exceeded the auction record set in 2022.
At first glance, it may be surprising that a two-decade-old front-wheel-drive coupe is attracting six-figure bids, but some vehicles tend to achieve legendary status over time. Performance cars from the late 1990s and early 2000s, particularly those from Honda, have consistently been increasing in value.
Currently, a 2001 Acura Integra Type R is up for bidding, having already reached the $120,000 mark with two days remaining, indicating there is still potential for the price to go even higher, no matter how unusual it may seem. This illustrates how highly coveted these once-underappreciated performance cars have become.
This specific Integra Type R is chassis #1086 of the 1,173 units sold in the US for the 2001 model year. Since 2014, it has been housed in a private collection in Wisconsin alongside other valued Hondas and Acuras. With only 4,800 miles (approximately 7,724 kilometers) on the odometer, it appears nearly new, finished in Phoenix Yellow, a color that remains striking as when it first debuted.
Low Mileage, Great Charm
Recognized for years as one of the finest handling front-wheel-drive cars ever made, the DC2-generation Integra Type R has become a celebrated performance icon. It features a 1.8-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine generating 195 hp and 130 lb-ft of torque, paired with a five-speed manual transmission that drives the front wheels through a limited-slip differential.
When it was originally sold, this car had a price tag of $24,930, which adjusts to roughly $45,431 considering inflation.
Similar to the exterior, the interior of this Acura Integra is in impeccable condition. It still has the original front bucket seats covered in black microsuede with red contrasting stitching. There is also the factory head unit and a plaque on the center armrest designating this car as #1086.
According to the Bring a Trailer listing, the seller has driven the car merely 500 miles in the last ten years. Importantly, it has been regularly serviced and maintained while in storage, receiving new fluids and a new battery in 2022.
The most valuable DC2R sold on Bring a Trailer was a similar yellow model that fetched $112,112 in 2022, which had 7,000 miles (11,200 km) on it. Bidding on this lower-mileage car has already surpassed that amount and could increase further.
So, if you’re questioning whether nostalgia comes with a price tag, the answer is yes, and it appears to be in the six-figure range. If you’re interested in seeing how high the bids will go or simply wish to admire a nearly perfect representation of early-2000s performance, you can view the listing here. Caution: side effects may include impulsive spending and sudden appreciation for microsuede.
