Tesla Now Urges Immediate Purchases After Years of Rejecting EV Incentives | Carscoops

Automakers need to capitalize on the remaining 2.5 months before the expiration of EV credits.

Federal EV tax credits, which can reach up to $7,500, will end for new vehicles on September 30.

Tesla is actively promoting this deadline on its website and through direct marketing emails.

Ford is enhancing its sales efforts by offering a free home charger and financing incentives as the cutoff approaches.

For those residing in the US and looking to purchase either a new or used electric vehicle, the time to act is limited as prices are set to rise significantly after October 1. The $7,500 credit for new EVs and the $4,000 credit for used EVs will no longer be available. Following the enactment of President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act on July 4, automakers such as Tesla and Ford are encouraging buyers to act swiftly before these savings are gone.

Despite Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk having previously supported the elimination of these credits, the company seems keen to boost sales. Their homepage now features a prominent banner saying, ‘$7,500 Federal Tax Credit Ending,’ informing customers that they must finalize their purchases by September to benefit from the discount.

Additionally, Tesla has been sending emails urging potential buyers to ‘order soon to get your $7,500.’ Currently, a new Tesla Model 3 Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive can be purchased for $34,990 with the tax credit, while its price will rise to $42,490 once the credit is eliminated—unless Tesla offers discounts starting in October. Similarly, a Model Y Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive is available for as low as $37,490 with the credit; without it, the price will be $44,990.

The Cybertruck also qualifies for the incentive, with the full $7,500 credit applying to both the Long Range and All-Wheel Drive models, reducing their starting prices to $69,990 and $79,990, respectively.

Ford is striving to remain competitive by encouraging purchases. They have extended an offer for a free home EV charger and installation from July 8 through September 30. Additionally, Ford has introduced a new financing promotion of “zero, zero, zero”: no down payment, no payments for the first 90 days, and zero percent interest for 48 months on select models.

“There’s never been a better time to buy an EV than now,” stated Stacey Ferreira, Ford’s head of US sales strategy, in a recent interview with Business Insider. “There are numerous incentives available in the market, and the tax credit is still in effect for now.”

With the impending expiration of tax credits, the urgency from automakers appears to be more about seizing the moment than about generosity. Are these final offers genuinely worthwhile, or merely marketing tactics disguised within a deadline? If you are considering an EV, now is the moment to balance the potential savings against the pressure and determine if the timing is right for you.
