Less than 100 vehicles reportedly require a safety fix before GM allows dealers to begin selling them.

General Motors has placed a stop sale on nearly 100 units of three SUV models for 2026 across the United States. The affected vehicles include the Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia, and Chevy Traverse. However, the automaker has not revealed the specific quality concern that prompted this internal stop-sale order.

GM has quietly halted sales on a select number of its latest SUVs, leading to speculation about the situation. The company recently issued a stop sale order for certain units of the GMC Acadia, Buick Enclave, and Chevrolet Traverse. Although this might initially seem concerning, the order pertains to only about 100 vehicles, not the entire lineup.

The stop sale was first identified by GM Authority, which mentioned that GM referenced a "quality issue" in a dealer bulletin marked "N252517720." Further details have been limited. GM had previously implemented a similar stop sale in 2024 due to a transmission problem with the Traverse, but there is currently no indication that this issue is related.

Interestingly, General Motors confirmed to Car and Driver that the problem affects just 92 cars nationwide. While acknowledging the stop sale, the automaker did not specify what the quality issue entails. Importantly, this is not a full recall; it is strictly a stop sale, which means dealers cannot sell these vehicles, transfer them to other dealers, or even use them for test drives.

The issue might range from a gearbox problem to something as minor as a loose trim piece. Given that these are all 2026 model year vehicles, there have been very few consistent complaints about them on online forums or the NHTSA's website.

Since all three models have recently undergone significant updates, it's challenging to link any previous iterations to this matter. We might see a leaked document in the coming days, but until then, prospective buyers can be assured that GM has a wide selection of all three models available, even if these 92 units are currently unavailable for sale.
