Slate has increased the price of their electric truck by a few thousand dollars.
It is now projected to start in the "mid-twenties," rather than below $20,000.
This price increase is thought to be linked to the removal of the clean car credit.
Slate initially generated excitement with an affordable electric pickup that was expected to cost under $20,000 after federal incentives. However, that is no longer true, as the company has discreetly updated their website to indicate that the “Blank Slate is now expected to be priced in the mid-twenties.”
The company also mentioned that the “price is subject to change” and “does not include taxes, fees, and accessories.” While the latter is reasonable, Slate’s revised announcement implies that we should prepare for an increase of about $5,000. This makes the truck considerably less attractive, especially when the larger and better-equipped Ford Maverick starts at $28,145.

Slate has not publicly commented on this alteration, but it seems to be connected to President Trump’s signing of The One Big Beautiful Bill into law. This extensive legislation encompasses a variety of topics, from a tax deduction on auto loan interest to funding for a “Golden Dome” missile defense system.
It also reduced funding for solar and wind projects, as well as the clean vehicle credit, which will be phased out by September 30, 2025, instead of December 31, 2032. This applies to both new and used vehicles.
While the adjustments are minimal—a single line on the previously available clean vehicle credit—they will significantly affect electric vehicles, as consumers will no longer receive a discount of up to $7,500. This could lead to price increases while demand might decrease.
It is understandable, as it's easier to accept a few compromises for a price under $20,000. However, at approximately $25,000, the situation becomes a bit more complicated.
Nevertheless, the Slate truck will feature a rear-mounted motor generating 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) and 195 lb-ft (264 Nm) of torque. It will be equipped with 52.7 and 84.3 kWh battery packs, providing ranges of roughly 150 and 240 miles (241 and 386 km). Customers can also expect a moderate 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) acceleration time of about eight seconds and a maximum speed of 90 mph (145 km/h).
