Cadillac's Baby V-Series Powers Up at Tesla Charging Stations and Reaches 60 mph in 3.5 Seconds | Carscoops
Cadillac is aiming to compete with the Tesla Model Y Performance with the new 2026 Optiq-V, set to launch later this year featuring 519 horsepower.
The crossover boasts distinctive styling both inside and out and is equipped with an adaptive suspension system.
With a starting price of $68,795, it is marketed as a luxurious "canyon carver" perfect for winding roads.
Cadillac continues to expand its impressive electric vehicle lineup with the introduction of the 2026 Optiq-V. This performance-oriented crossover is significant as it is the first vehicle from General Motors to feature a native NACS (North American Charging Standard) port, allowing convenient access to Tesla Superchargers, which has been much anticipated.
The addition of the NACS port is appreciated, but the focus of the V-Series is performance, and the Optiq-V meets expectations. It has a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system that produces an estimated 519 hp (387 kW / 526 PS) and 650 lb-ft (880 Nm) of torque. This allows the 5,445 lb (2,470 kg) crossover to achieve 0-60 mph (96 km/h) in just 3.5 seconds with Launch Control.
Powering the vehicle is an 85 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, offering an estimated range of 275 miles (443 km), which is 27 miles (43 km) less than the standard model and may seem slightly disappointing.
On a positive note, a DC fast charger can provide about 70 miles (113 km) of range in approximately 10 minutes. When charging at home, a 7.7 kW charger can deliver 18 miles (29 km) of range per hour, while an 11.5 kW charger offers 31 miles (50 km) per hour.
During a media briefing earlier this month, Lead Development Engineer Alex Doss mentioned that the Optiq-V was engineered to be a “canyon carver.” To enhance driving dynamics, it features an adaptive suspension, torque vectoring, and specially designed tires.
The model also includes a customizable V-Mode and Brembo front brakes that measure 15.4 inches (390 mm). However, the Optiq-V does not possess the 1,500 lb (680 kg) towing capacity available on the standard model.
A Sportier Yet Familiar Design
In addition to an extra 219 hp (163 kW / 222 PS), the Optiq-V showcases an aggressive front design with a gloss black splitter. This is complemented by body-colored elements, a black roof, and a distinct intake with a unique mesh pattern.
Designers have gone further with exclusive 21-inch alloy wheels featuring a satin graphite finish and a laser-etched V-Series badge. Upon closer inspection, the model reveals a notable diffuser and a unique design for the rear quarter glass.
The Optiq-V will be available in eight colors, including Deep Ocean Tintcoat and Magnus Metal Frost, which are exclusive to the V-Series. Buyers can also opt for a carbon fiber package that includes a front splitter, rear diffuser, and a mid-mounted spoiler.
An Interior With Carbon Fiber and Special Details
The interior remains mostly unchanged, welcoming drivers with a familiar 33-inch display that includes Google built-in. However, there are several unique touches, such as a sport steering wheel, carbon fiber accents, and V-Series badging.
Designers have also incorporated blue highlights and patterned fabric made from recycled materials. The model will be available in two interior themes along with an Expressive Color package, which adds Santorini Blue seatback panels and seatbelts.
The full details will be revealed closer to the launch, but the Optiq-V comes well-equipped with a panoramic fixed glass roof and a 19-speaker AKG Studio audio system featuring Dolby Atmos technology. Additional features include Super Cruise and various driver assistance systems like adaptive cruise control, forward collision alert, blind zone steering assist, and enhanced automatic parking.
Pricing and Competitors
The 2026 Cadillac Optiq-V is slated to begin production this fall, starting at $68,795, including destination fees. It will be available in North America, Israel, and the Middle East, which is $9,800 less than Cadillac's larger 615 hp Lyriq-V.
One of its main competitors will be the upcoming Tesla Model Y Performance. Although that variant has not yet debuted, it's anticipated to have a price premium of approximately $8,000 to $10,000 over the standard AWD model, positioning it in the $57,000 to $59,000 range before the $7,500 federal tax credit.
