President Trump has reportedly opted to sell his Tesla Model S. This decision follows a highly publicized dispute on social media. Both Trump and Musk have refrained from mentioning each other today.
The unexpected friendship between the two has quickly deteriorated. What began as a notable display of support from Donald Trump for Elon Musk and Tesla has swiftly turned into a chaotic public conflict, filled with insults, conspiracy theories, and now the impending sale of a vehicle.
Last March, President Trump promised to purchase a Tesla to demonstrate his "confidence and support" for Elon Musk amidst what he claimed were "illegal" boycotts against the brand. He referred to Tesla as "one of the world’s great automakers" and praised Musk as a "truly great American."
Recent developments have seen those positive sentiments fade significantly. Musk initiated the backlash by labeling Trump's Big Beautiful Bill as a "disgusting abomination." The exchanges escalated, with Musk asserting that Trump’s tariffs would lead to a recession, and claiming the President was "in the Epstein files," which he said was the true reason those files haven't been revealed.
In response, Trump retaliated with threats to end government contracts and subsidies for Musk's companies, while also suggesting that the tech billionaire had "gone crazy."
While the back-and-forth has settled today, The New York Times reports that Trump has chosen to sell his Tesla Model S. However, it's largely symbolic, as the Secret Service is said to prohibit him from driving the vehicle.
Additionally, although Trump hasn't directly commented on the Musk situation, he did share a message from a lawyer representing Epstein, stating that the infamous financier "had no information to harm President Trump."
Conversely, Elon has continued to post on X, avoiding direct attacks on the President but asserting that "Congress is bankrupting America."
