It may be hard to accept, but the Fox Body Ford Mustang is now considered a classic. Sufficient time has passed for Ford to honor it in the current-generation S650 Mustang by including a customizable Fox Body-themed digital gauge display. Additionally, there’s something new: the FX Package, which directly references the 1980s model through special paint options, wheel designs, and white trim accents.

Before you inquire, yes, it's clear Ford intentionally painted the car’s nostrils Oxford White, arguably the most '80s element. The wheels are also noteworthy, available in two styles: one is a variation of the Mustang's existing 19-inch five-spoke design, while the other, shown in this blog, is exclusive to the Performance package and inspired by the Fox Body. Regardless of which style you choose, they will come painted in (you guessed it) Cocaine White. I mean, Oxford White.

Ford has also introduced a new color, Adriatic Blue Metallic, for 2026. You might recall that the third-generation Mustang sported a similar teal shade. In addition, Ford is reintroducing Orange Fury Metallic Tricoat for the first time since 2019. Both colors are available for Mustang EcoBoost, GT, and Dark Horse models, even if you don’t opt for the FX Package.

The design team also made enhancements to the interior. The Mustang GT’s Recaro bucket seats feature perforated black and white sections that harken back to the Fox Body’s plaid inserts. There’s also white trim and badging, utilizing a special font intended to evoke the iconic predecessor.

Those interested in the FX Package will need to purchase a Mustang GT Premium model; it can be fitted onto either convertibles or coupes with the six-speed Tremec manual or 10-speed automatic transmission. Ford has yet to announce pricing, so expect that information to be released closer to the order opening in late June.

I could definitely see myself enjoying one of these in convertible form with a manual transmission, so I can fully appreciate the 5.0-liter Coyote engine and let it rev to my heart's content. While I’m not typically a convertible person, at this point, it’s all part of the experience, right? I may not have the budget for a new Mustang, but that won't stop me from dreaming.
