The cause of the fire involving the Mercedes-AMG ONE remains uncertain, but the damages incurred were significant nonetheless.

On June 2, 2025, it was reported that a rare, multi-million dollar AMG ONE caught fire and was completely consumed by flames in Germany.

Speculation regarding the fire's origin is prevalent online, with Mercedes expected to conduct a thorough investigation, closely monitored by other owners.

Let us take a moment to acknowledge what is arguably one of the most technologically advanced (and costly) hypercars ever to be registered. Out of the limited 275 units produced, one of these multi-million dollar Mercedes-AMG ONEs has been lost. Under still-unknown circumstances, the car ignited and was reduced to ashes before firefighters could control the situation.

While the exact cause is still undetermined, it is anticipated that Mercedes will conduct an extensive inquiry into this incident. They will indeed have to sift through the significantly burned wreckage to do so.

A post by the account Chrimbu, which first shared a video of the event, commented, “AMG ONE a hot sports car, would be better without lithium-ion battery.” Whether this remark is insightful, sarcastic, or simply noise from the internet is uncertain, as well as their connection to the vehicle or its owner.

Currently, there is no confirmed relationship between the fire and the car’s hybrid system. However, it is evident that the cabin and the rear section of the AMG ONE were fully engulfed in flames.

Video footage shows the local fire department already present at the scene, with parts of the road cordoned off. Images of the aftermath depict the vehicle’s shell, drenched in fire retardant and reduced to little more than a remnant of what it once was.

It is important to note that even if the owner acknowledges some fault, Mercedes will probably carry out a deeper investigation. Other customers are certainly paying close attention to this incident and are curious about what transpired. Consequently, Mercedes is likely keen on uncovering the complete details of this case. In a similar situation from the previous year, Lamborghini issued a recall after a Revuelto caught fire in New York.

In that incident, the affected vehicle had undergone an oil circuit modification prior to the fire. The manufacturer determined that the fire was due to the technicians not securing an oil line correctly, causing oil to leak, ignite, and spread.

There’s no indication that the AMG ONE faced a similar issue, but it serves as a good example of why manufacturers investigate such events thoroughly. Let's hope that everyone involved in the incident escaped safely and that this remains an isolated occurrence.
