The Volkswagen ID Buzz stands out as one of the most user-friendly and aesthetically pleasing modern vehicle designs for the aftermarket. Its boxy, cheerful shape is ideal for a variety of purposes. All-in-one camper kits fit perfectly into this design, and now there's an option that won't break the bank.
Dream Catcher Campers offers plug-and-play camper pods starting at £545 ($735 USD). These prices are in British pounds since the company is based in the U.K. The website does not indicate whether they ship internationally, but we have inquired about it and remain hopeful.
Nonetheless, these kits are designed with great practicality in mind. For instance, the camper pod can remain installed while the second-row seats are still up, facilitated by a hinge system. A recent purchaser shared their installation experience in an ID Buzz Facebook group, mentioning that the compact camper can be completely removed.
“It’s all attached to a board that just slides in and out,” said Cliff Roberts. “No assembly, no bolting down. It stores in the garage as one unit.”
This certainly eliminates any additional work for spontaneous weekend adventures. You might need to find your motivation elsewhere, right?
Dream Catcher offers four compact camper pods that meet all necessary criteria. The entry-level model is the Nomad, which is constructed from 15mm construction-grade plywood—nothing more. In fact, all the variants (Nomad, Adventure, Explorer, and Trekker) seem to share the same fundamental features, differing only in the type of plywood, which influences weight and durability.
The trim and finishes between the kits also vary slightly, but they all appear to include a single built-in drawer and a small table that can be folded down to create a sleeping space. The pods are priced between £545 and £695.
As you move up the range, costs rise incrementally based on board finishes, trim colors, upholstery, and other variables. For added comfort, a two-inch foam kit starts at £330, or you can opt for the luxurious three-inch foam with Harris Tweed upholstery for £450, with over 250 design options available.
Every camper pod seems to be customizable to an extensive degree. You can request extras like additional drawers, cooking stoves, cutlery storage, kettles, portable power units, 240V hook-up leads, a bed system, pull-out shelves, water carriers, and more. Your only limitations are the interior space of the VW minivan and possibly how much weight you can handle.
