One of only 178 Vipers in Race Yellow from 2002 is heading to auction, and it appears to be an excellent specimen.
The Race Yellow Viper is equipped with an upgraded 8.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 engine.
Enhancements include new pistons, headers, fuel injectors, a high-flow exhaust, and more.
Despite its age, this first-generation model has been driven only 7,034 miles since it was first sold.
Nothing embodies the essence of a "great American sports car" quite like the Dodge Viper, and next month, an especially vibrant model will be available for auction. This Viper has traveled just 7,034 miles (11,320 km) and has undergone significant modifications, and it will also be auctioned with no reserve, creating a unique chance for buyers to potentially snag a deal.
This particular Viper belongs to the 2002 lineup, the final year of the second iteration (1996-2022) of the first generation, known as SR-II. It is one of just 178 units finished in Race Yellow and still has its original chrome wheels. At first glance, it may appear stock, but underneath, this car has been modified into something much more powerful.
For instance, the 8.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 has been rebuilt with forged pistons and a more aggressive camshaft. The fuel injectors and spark plugs have also been upgraded, and a set of K&N cold air intakes is installed in a carbon fiber airbox. The shop that upgraded the Viper also fitted it with a high-flow exhaust, long tube headers, and a new twin-plate clutch.
But the modifications aren't limited to the engine alone. The Viper now features upgraded axles, a reinforced differential, and new chassis bracing for added stiffness. Polycarbonate bushings complete the suspension upgrades, creating a well-rounded performance package.
According to Mecum Auctions, this Viper has been stored in a garage since new, and its exterior remains in immaculate condition, free from any damage. The interior also looks pristine, although it’s somewhat plain with black leather and plastic on most surfaces.
As for power output, the standard 2002 Viper generated around 450 horsepower, but with all the upgrades, it's likely this one exceeds 500 horsepower. It's worth noting that this vehicle lacks the electronic safety systems common in many modern cars, such as stability control, traction control, or launch control. If you think the Mustang is challenging to handle, you clearly haven't tried driving one of these.
