Italian executive Antonio Filosa has been appointed as CEO of Stellantis following the resignation of Carlos Tavares six months ago. Previously, Filosa held the roles of Jeep CEO and head of Stellantis North and South America. He is expected to assist Stellantis in recovering after a year marked by declining profits and weak sales.

The search for a successor to Carlos Tavares as Stellantis’ leader has concluded. The company’s Board of Directors has unanimously selected Antonio Filosa to assume the role of CEO, effective June 23.

Born in Naples, Italy, in 1973, Filosa is well-acquainted with the company, bringing 25 years of experience, starting his career with Fiat in 1999 and progressing to lead Stellantis' operations in North and South America.

Filosa's automotive career took a notable turn in 2018 when he became Chief Operating Officer for South America at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA). After the merger with PSA in 2021, he maintained this role, overseeing Jeep’s entry into Brazil. His efforts in this position led to his appointment as CEO of Jeep from November 2023 to February 2025, where he aimed to enhance sales and strengthen the brand's presence in Europe.

Following Tavares' resignation in December 2024, Filosa was elevated to Chief Operating Officer for the Americas and Chief Quality Officer. He steps into the CEO role during a challenging period for Stellantis, as profits fell by 70% in 2024. Earlier this year, he emphasized that the US retail market is the company’s "main priority" while addressing the downturn in global sales.

The Board chose Filosa based on his "proven track record of hands-on success" throughout his career, extensive knowledge of the company, and strong leadership attributes. Executive Chairman John Elkann, who will continue in his position, remarked on his close collaboration with Filosa over the past six months, highlighting his effective leadership during “unprecedented challenges.”

Upon officially taking over as CEO on June 23, Filosa plans to reveal a new leadership team for Stellantis. Elkann stated, “I have worked closely with Antonio over the past six months, during which his responsibilities have grown, and his effective leadership in both North and South America during unprecedented challenges has affirmed the exceptional qualities he brings to this role.”

In his own remarks, Filosa expressed his appreciation for the confidence placed in him, recognizing the obstacles ahead but underscoring the strength of Stellantis’ workforce and legacy. He noted the company’s “immense talent, passion, and commitment,” reiterating that Stellantis' success will continue to depend on its brands and a customer-centric approach.
