The 2022 Type S was purchased with the $13,000 Lightweight Package, which featured carbon brake rotors and an engine cover.
A 2022 Acura NSX recently fetched 17 percent above its MSRP in an online auction.
Originally priced at $187,000, the Type S changed hands for $219,000 on Bring a Trailer.
This particular car, with only 1,700 miles on it, included options such as the Lightweight Package and black wheels.
Although Acura's comeback NSX struggled with sales in North America, collectors are eager to pay premium prices for the most exclusive versions. This yellow hybrid supercar recently sold for $32,000 above its original MSRP, indicating a trend rather than an isolated event.
Two key factors differentiate this Acura from other NSXs available on the market. The first is its low mileage of just 1,700 miles (2,740 km), which is minimal for a vehicle designed for regular enjoyment due to its drivability.
The second and more significant reason for its sale price exceeding $200,000 is that it is a Type S, a more driver-centric variant of the NSX that Acura introduced in 2022 to succeed the base model from 2016. Only 350 Type S units were manufactured at the Ohio facility during the NSX's final production phase, with 300 allocated for the U.S. market, making them highly coveted among enthusiasts.
The Type S featured a refreshed design with modifications to the bumpers, sills, and rear, enhancing aesthetics while reducing lift and improving cooling. The triple-motor, 3.5-liter V6 hybrid powertrain received a power increase from 573 hp (580 PS) to 600 hp (608 PS), new forged wheels expanded the front and rear track, and a carbon roof lowered the center of gravity and reduced weight.
To decrease weight further by 57.8 lbs (26.2 kg), Acura provided a Lightweight Package that included carbon brakes, a carbon engine cover, and a carbon interior trim set. This specific option was chosen by the original owner, adding $13,000 to the initial MSRP of $169,500. With an additional $1,500 for black wheels, the MSRP rose to $186,995, but after 1,700 miles, the new owner paid a $32,000 premium to acquire the same car on Bring a Trailer.
Examining past sale prices on Bring a Trailer reveals that this situation is not unique. Another 2022 Type S with the Lightweight Package, this one having only 704 miles (1,130 km) and originally priced at $184,995, sold for $265,000 a few months ago, and four other Type Ss have exceeded $200,000 in sale price over the last six months.
