      A large truck explosion was recorded by a home security camera in Addison, Illinois over the weekend. The video shows a box truck driving down a residential street on Saturday when it suddenly explodes, scattering debris in every direction.

      According to the Addison Police Department, the incident took place around 8:40 am, and the damage was so extensive that they mistakenly categorized the vehicle as a flatbed truck. The department later provided an update indicating that the ATF and the DuPage County Bomb Squad investigated and concluded that the explosion was an accident caused by a leaking propane tank.

      Authorities further noted that the explosion resulted in damage to several homes, while the driver was fortunate to only suffer minor injuries, which is quite remarkable considering the blast's intensity.

      CBS New Chicago reported that the vehicle involved was a Penske rental truck, and debris—such as clothing and furniture—was spread over approximately one to two blocks. The report indicated that four homes were damaged, with at least one becoming "temporarily uninhabitable" after a section of the truck struck a load-bearing wall, pushing it between 2 to 4 feet (610 to 1,219 mm) inward.

      A spokesperson from Penske informed the station that, per the rental agreement, customers are not permitted to transport "explosive, flammable, or otherwise hazardous materials." However, footage obtained by WGN clearly shows an AmeriGas propane cylinder in the back of the damaged truck.
