Discussions regarding the advantages and disadvantages of driving an electric vehicle (EV) are making their way to one of America’s most debate-friendly restaurant chains. BP Pulse announced the installation of 400-kilowatt DC fast chargers at select Waffle House locations throughout the United States, allowing you to charge your battery while engaging in a lively debate with a stranger at 1:27 a.m. after ordering a bacon, egg, and cheese hashbrown bowl.
By partnering with Waffle House, BP Pulse aims to expand its charging station network in the South and Southeast. The locations for the charging stations have already been chosen. Although a complete list is not available yet, it appears the rollout will begin in Texas, Georgia, and Florida before extending to other states. Each restaurant will feature six charging bays that include a combination of CCS and NACS connectors.
Collaborating with Waffle House is logical: in addition to attracting late-night patrons, the chain is renowned for its around-the-clock service. Most locations operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and 365 days a year. Scientists even reference the "Waffle House Index" as an informal measure to gauge storm severity. If you arrive at a Waffle House to find a “sorry, we’re closed” sign, it’s likely time to start worrying about seeking shelter.
This setup means that EV drivers can enjoy food, coffee, and restroom facilities while waiting for their vehicle to charge, no matter the time of day they arrive at the Waffle House. This is excellent news for those planning a road trip across the South in an EV.
The first BP Plus chargers at Waffle House are set to be operational in 2026.
