Imagine sitting in your favorite chair when a dump truck crashes through your home, reminiscent of a 36-ton Kool-Aid man, propelling you through two walls. This incident occurred this past Tuesday to a resident of Woodbury Heights, New Jersey. The driver lost consciousness at the wheel due to a medical emergency while transporting a load of concrete sand, crashing directly through the homeowner’s house as if it were made of tissue paper. Fortunately, everyone escaped unharmed.

In the dashcam footage from ABC6, the moment the driver loses consciousness is visible, as the truck begins to drift left across the double yellow lines. Charles Zeisloft, the owner of the trucking company, stated that the fully loaded dump truck weighed approximately 73,000 pounds. The havoc such an unrestrained vehicle can create is unimaginable, yet the damage was contained to a minimum.

Aside from demolishing the house, the only other damage inflicted by the runaway truck was to a telephone pole, which was toppled and uprooted like a toothpick after being struck by the massive vehicle. The truck barreled through the pole as though it were nonexistent, and the collision did not slow it down at all. One can only imagine the consequences had it crashed head-on with an oncoming vehicle.

Despite its destructive potential, neither the driver nor the homeowner sustained any life-threatening injuries. Although the homeowner was injured, he remained conscious and was able to call out for his neighbor, who came to assist him.

“I made eye contact with him through a hole where the floor and well had separated, and we spoke for about 10 minutes until the paramedics arrived,” said neighbor David Keating to ABC6.

When the truck is shown stuck inside the house, it appears as if it simply created a large opening. However, the home’s structure was severely compromised and shifted several feet off its foundation. After everyone was rescued and transported to the hospital, and the truck was removed, the house had to be demolished by a crew.

This situation could have turned out much worse—not just for the driver and homeowner, but also for other motorists, a woman who was reportedly walking her child down the same street just moments prior, or anyone else who could have been struck by debris. Remarkably, no one was critically injured, prompting a fear of any heavy trucks approaching in the opposite lane.
