The special edition is now available in Japan featuring self-charging hybrid and hydrogen fuel cell powertrains.

Japanese customers can choose between two exclusive special editions of the Toyota Crown sedan this year.

The 70th Anniversary Edition boasts a two-tone exterior and distinctive interior badges.

The Limited Matte Metal edition is finished in a dark gray hue that is both low-maintenance and easy to clean.

Toyota has revamped the Crown Sedan in Japan by introducing two new special editions that offer unique aesthetics and subtle luxury elements. While the changes are not significant, they provide enough uniqueness to celebrate a milestone and maintain the lineup's appeal.

One of these new models honors the 70th anniversary of the Crown nameplate, featuring a two-tone exterior with commemorative details throughout. The other option adopts a darker, more contemporary look with a Matte Metal shade already seen on other Crown models like the Crossover and Sport.

The four-door sedan remains arguably the most stylish member of the current Crown lineup. With continuous production since 1955, Toyota is celebrating the 70-year milestone by launching the Crown Special Edition Z “The 70th,” which is exclusively available in Japan.

This anniversary version comes with a two-tone paint scheme, combining Precious Metal on the upper half with either Precious White Pearl or Precious Black Pearl below. This pairing lends an upscale appearance, reminiscent of Maybach luxury without the exorbitant price.

The sedan features 20-inch alloy wheels finished in matte black. Optional gray side decals bear a subtle 70th marking. An anniversary logo with the Crown emblem is laser-etched onto the dashboard and engraved on the jewel-like gear selector. It also appears on the puddle lights, the recycled leather pouch for the manual, and the key fob. The Black Lustre interior, adorned with matching wood grain inserts, maintains a classy and understated ambiance.

In addition to the 70th edition, Toyota presents the Crown Special Edition Z Limited Matte Metal. This variant substitutes the anniversary branding for a sleek, industrial aesthetic. Its exterior is coated in a dark matte gray with a specialized surface finish that Toyota claims is easy to maintain. Like its counterpart, it rides on 20-inch matte black wheels and features the Black Lustre interior, although it does not include the jewel-like gear knob that the anniversary edition has. Available dealer accessories encompass headrest pillows and a panoramic sunroof.

Both special editions can be equipped with either of two powertrains: a 2.5-liter self-charging hybrid or a hydrogen-powered FCEV derived from the Mirai.

Pricing for the Crown Special Edition Z “The 70th” begins at ¥7,550,000 (approximately $52,700) for the hybrid variant, and ¥8,550,000 ($59,700) for the FCEV. The Matte Metal edition is slightly pricier, starting at ¥8,100,000 ($56,500) and reaching up to ¥9,100,000 ($63,500) with the hydrogen configuration.
