Do you recall Pop-Up Lights? This Classic Prelude Si Will Remind You of the Past | Carscoops

Despite having approximately 37,000 miles on the odometer, this Prelude Si appears to be in excellent condition.

This 1989 Honda Prelude Si has only 37,000 miles and remains in impressive shape.

Equipped with a 135-hp 2.0-liter engine and a five-speed manual transmission, it boasts an appealing aesthetic, partially due to a repaint in the original Barbados Yellow.

Honda is currently attempting to revive the Prelude, but whether it can recapture the charm of its predecessors is uncertain. The upcoming model is expected to feature a hybrid powertrain and simulated gear shifts—far from the exhilarating driving experience enthusiasts hope for. In contrast, the classics still possess much to offer, as shown by this 1989 Prelude that is available for sale in the US.

This specific Prelude is coated in the rare Barbados Yellow and spent most of its life in Rhode Island until last year. It has accumulated around 37,000 miles (59,000 km) since its inception, which, while not excessively high for a car from 1989, does not classify it as a low-mileage discovery or garage treasure. Nonetheless, auction bids have already surpassed $15,000, indicating a strong demand for this pristine example of the iconic Honda coupe.

Over the years, Honda released various Prelude versions, each offering something unique. This model is the Si, featuring the sought-after five-speed manual transmission and powered by Honda's 2.0-liter naturally aspirated B20A5 engine. When new, this engine produced 135 hp and 127 lb-ft (172 Nm) of torque. Although this specific vehicle lacks the four-wheel steering system found in some of its counterparts, it still promises a satisfying driving experience.

As per the Bring a Trailer listing, the car has been repainted in its original Barbados Yellow, which contributes to its remarkably pristine look. It is mounted on 14-inch steel wheels, giving it a clean, straightforward appearance that’s reflective of its era.

Inside, the Prelude embodies the '80s Honda aesthetic, featuring black cloth seats with striped inserts and a color-coordinated dashboard. It has a slightly retro feel, but in a positive way. While the car may not boast many modern amenities, it does include cruise control, a nice, though somewhat surprising feature for a vehicle of this age. The stereo has been upgraded to a Pioneer unit, a nice addition for those wishing to enjoy music while driving.

This Prelude might not rival a contemporary hot hatch, but it earned praise for its handling when launched, thanks in part to its double wishbone suspension.

If you're feeling nostalgic and wish to possess a piece of Honda history, consider participating in this auction before someone else does. You can view the listing on Bring a Trailer here.
