Toyota Produced an Electric Subaru Outback with Power Equivalent to a Supra | Carscoops
Sporting a familiar appearance and an additional 6 inches in length, the all-new 2026 Toyota bZ Woodland is an intriguing electric vehicle.
Toyota has launched the 2026 bZ Woodland, which can be seen as their alternative to the Subaru Trailseeker. This model is nearly 6 inches longer than the standard bZ and boasts an all-wheel-drive system generating 375 hp. The electric crossover includes an NACS port but only offers a range of up to 260 miles.
Just when it seemed that Toyota was moving away from complex names, they unveiled the 2026 bZ Woodland. Although it may appear to be a rugged variant of the updated bZ (formerly known as the bZ4X), it is, in fact, a distinct vehicle that shares many features with the original.
This might confuse some, but it essentially represents Toyota's take on the Subaru Trailseeker, with both models derived from their respective Solterra and bZ platforms. Consequently, the bZ Woodland is a blend of a crossover and a wagon, reminiscent of Subaru's Outback.
Set for release early next year, the bZ Woodland retains the bZ's characteristic hammerhead front end with familiar headlights, complemented by black fenders and plastic body cladding.
QUICK FACTS
At first glance, the bZ and bZ Woodland may appear similar, yet the latter is more wagon-like, measuring nearly 6 inches (152 mm) longer and almost an inch (25 mm) taller than the standard bZ. Additionally, the bZ Woodland features roof rails and distinctive 18-inch wheels that can be fitted with optional all-terrain tires. It also offers 8.3 inches (211 mm) of ground clearance, just slightly less than the RAV4.
A Minimalist, Well-Equipped Interior
The design theme continues inside, where drivers will encounter a freestanding digital instrument cluster paired with a 14-inch infotainment system, a robust steering wheel, and over 30 cubic feet (850 liters) of rear cargo space.
The bZ Woodland will be offered in a single trim that comes with heated SofTex front seats, a dual wireless smartphone charger, and a six-speaker audio system. An optional Premium package adds a nine-speaker JBL audio system, a panoramic glass roof, ventilated front seats, and a radiant heater.
In terms of features, the bZ Woodland includes Toyota's Safety Sense 3.0 suite of driver assistance technologies. This suite consists of Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Tracing Assist, and a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, along with Road Sign Assist, Proactive Driving Assist, Automatic High Beams, and Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist. Additional highlights include Safe Exit Alert, a Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and a Panoramic View Monitor integrated with a Multi-Terrain Monitor.
375 HP and 260 Miles of Range
The 'wagonover' is built on the e-TNGA platform and features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system that delivers 375 hp (280 kW / 380 PS). While Toyota hasn't disclosed much about the powertrain, they mentioned that the model is equipped with an X-Mode system and a Grip-Control function, which is said to utilize "motor drive power modulation for enhanced off-road capability."
The electric motors are powered by a 74.7 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which provides a modest range of up to 260 miles (418 km). When the battery is low, it can charge from 10-80% in about 30 minutes using a DC fast charger. Other notable charging features include a North American Charging System (NACS) port, a pre-conditioning option, and Plug & Charge capability. Toyota also noted that this EV will be capable of towing up to 3,500 lbs (1,588 kg).

Global Availability
While pricing for the US and Canada will be announced closer to its early 2026 launch date, the expectation is that the bZ Woodland will be priced higher than the less powerful dual-motor bZ4X (pricing for the updated bZ has not yet been revealed), which currently ranges from approximately $41,000 to $46,000. It's likely to be priced around $50,000.
The bZ Woodland will also be available globally, including in Japan in the latter half of next year and in Europe starting in spring 2026. However, in these markets, it will be marketed under a different name: bZ4X Touring.
