The new Q9 is nearing production and acquiring a distinctive appearance to set it apart from the Q7.

The prototype for the 2027 Audi Q9 is now significantly less camouflaged compared to earlier models. It incorporates various changes that differentiate it from the Q7.

This SUV, designed to compete with the BMW X7 and Cadillac Escalade, is expected to offer both internal combustion engine (ICE) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) options.

Spy photographers have spotted the 2027 Audi Q9 multiple times, and the latest prototype notably reveals many production components, providing us with an excellent view of the upcoming vehicle, which is clearly more than just a larger Q7.

A key feature that distinguishes it is a large grille with 16 vertical bars and a high-mounted four-ring logo. The grille is accompanied by split lighting units and a wide lower intake that includes horizontal and vertical bars, along with a prominent central sensor.

In profile, the Q9 appears rather conventional, yet it sports a long hood that transitions into a stylish windscreen. This flows into a sloping roof equipped with sizable roof rails. Below, the bodywork is curvy, features Mustang Mach-E-style door pulls, and a spacious greenhouse. Additionally, it is fitted with large wheels shod in Continental SportContact tires.

The rear design is reminiscent of the new A6, showcasing boomerang-shaped taillights linked by a thin illuminated strip. These are complemented by a slightly recessed bumper that houses wide reflectors and a sleek dual exhaust system.

Interior glimpses remain limited, but it is anticipated that the model will adopt features from recent vehicles like the A6 and Q6 e-tron. Expect an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.5-inch infotainment display, and a 10.9-inch screen for the front passenger.

Beyond this, details about the model are sparse, but it will utilize the Premium Platform Combustion and is expected to offer petrol and diesel variants. One option may include a 3.0-liter TSFI V6 with mild hybrid technology, which produces 362 hp (270 kW / 367 PS) and 406 lb-ft (550 Nm) of torque in the new A6.

Additionally, we can anticipate a plug-in hybrid powertrain that may couple a 2.0-liter TFSI four-cylinder engine with an electric motor and a significant battery pack. This configuration allows the A6 e-hybrid to achieve outputs of 295 hp (220 kW / 299 PS) and 362 hp (270 kW / 367 PS).
