A 17-year-old driver of a Jeep accidentally accelerated while on a pier in Long Island.

The incident caused the SUV to land on a floating dock, preventing it from falling into the water.

The vehicle was damaged and requires repairs to its bumper and suspension parts.

On Mother’s Day, a 17-year-old driver and her Jeep barely missed an unintended dive into the Long Island Sound after crashing through a guardrail and coming to rest on a wooden floating dock. Fortunately, a nearby security camera captured the entire chaotic event.

In the video, the silver 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee can be seen behaving like an off-road vehicle as it launches up a curb and destroys the fence at the end of a pier in Port Jefferson. As the SUV drops onto the floating dock below, it spins left and somehow manages to stabilize itself. However, if the situation had unfolded differently, it could have tipped over and landed in the water.

According to a report from the NY Post, the teenage driver inadvertently pressed down on the accelerator while navigating the pier. Local firefighters rushed to the scene and were able to rescue the teenager, who was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital with only minor injuries. The Jeep had to be secured with several strong ropes before a tow truck could remove it.

Both the pier and the floating dock suffered damage from the crash. The guardrail will need replacing, and the force of the Jeep colliding with the dock created a large hole in the wood that requires repair. It would be beneficial for the driver and the vehicle to have insurance, as they could face significant repair costs otherwise.

As for the Jeep, it is in worse condition now. It will definitely require a new bumper and probably some suspension repairs to restore it to proper condition.
