The trend of Jeep Ducking is rapidly growing in popularity nationwide, drawing attention from many.

This practice involves placing rubber ducks on Jeeps as a friendly sign of community spirit.

Recently, a police officer from Florida discussed the legal aspects associated with Jeep Ducking.

If you’ve noticed a rubber duck sitting on a Jeep's dashboard and thought, “What’s that all about?”, you’re in luck. It’s not some obscure ritual aimed at invoking off-road deities. Instead, it's a lighthearted tradition that has piqued curiosity and led to discussions about its legality. A law enforcement officer has shared some insights for those who engage in this activity.

People from various regions refer to this act by different names, such as “Jeep Ducking,” “Duck Duck Jeep,” and “Jeep Jeep Duck.” The idea is straightforward: Jeep owners keep rubber ducks of various shapes and sizes accessible while they drive around.

When they encounter a Jeep they particularly admire, they often leave a rubber duck on it as a way to express approval. Upon returning, the Jeep owner likely feels a sense of connection with another Jeep enthusiast. This community tends to be quite friendly, and the tradition serves as another testament to that camaraderie.

For those curious about the origins of this tradition, Click Orlando reports that it began in Canada in 2020. “A Jeep owner named Allison Parliament started the tradition after a challenging personal experience,” the report states. “She placed a duck on a stranger’s Jeep to bring a smile and then shared it online, leading to a worldwide Jeep trend powered by social media hashtags and Jeep communities.”

It’s not uncommon to see some Jeeps adorned with a significant number of ducks on their dashboards, often to a humorous extent. Is this legal? According to Florida State Trooper Steve Montiero, it technically is, but drivers should be cautious about the height of the ducks on the dashboard. “Anything that obstructs your view can pose a safety concern,” Montiero notes.

Interestingly, there have been reports of parked Teslas being vandalized by individuals expressing their dissatisfaction with Elon Musk’s political views, which could lead to serious charges if caught by police. In contrast, placing a duck on a Jeep is completely legal as long as there’s no damage to the vehicle, no trespassing, and no harmful interference, Montiero states.

So, there you have it: the background of Jeep Ducking, the legal details, and a nudge to leave a duck on a Jeep next time you admire one. Just remember not to go overboard. As long as you’re not obstructing the driver’s view or engaging in any questionable actions, it’s all in good fun.
