New Alfa Romeo Stelvio Revealed Through Official Patents | Carscoops

Following the release of official patents showcasing the next Stelvio's design, independent artists have created accurate renderings of the upcoming SUV.

Alfa Romeo's next-generation Stelvio is set to launch later this year, offering electric and hybrid variants.

This luxury SUV will feature a completely new design, with updated styling and enhanced technology.

The Quadrifoglio version may retain the outgoing model’s twin-turbo V6 for performance benefits.

The countdown is on for the arrival of the second-generation Alfa Romeo Stelvio, anticipated later this year, a much-needed update given the current model's aging design. A refresh in styling, technology, and the addition of an electric powertrain option are just what it requires.

While Alfa Romeo has not yet shared official images, the new SUV has been partially revealed through patent filings. Independent renderings provide a clearer picture of what to expect from the next-generation Stelvio's exterior.

These illustrations were created by digital artists Theophilus Chin and Nikita Chuyko for Kolesa, both recognized for their accurate previews of upcoming production vehicles. Their latest creations utilize earlier spy shots and recent patent drawings, incorporating some creative color touches.

The new Italian SUV shows a significant evolution from its predecessor but retains identifiable Alfa Romeo elements with its Scudetto grille and updated visuals. Up front, the split lighting design features slim daytime running lights and main headlights seamlessly integrated into triangular bumper intakes. The redesigned grille also provides ample space for a centrally-placed license plate, borrowing a detail from the smaller Alfa Romeo Junior.

The side profile of the Stelvio appears more refined, featuring a sleeker roofline, a bi-tone paint scheme, large alloy wheels, and flush door handles, moving the design closer to that of a coupe-SUV without becoming a full fastback. At the rear, the standout element is the full-width LED taillights that form a triangular shape, extending partially into the tailgate, reminiscent of the front grille.

The two artists had slightly different approaches. Kelsonik revised his earlier renderings for Kolesa, enhancing the design with more precise details from the leaked patent applications. Meanwhile, Theottle maintained some variations but accurately captured the proportions, drawing from the mechanically related Jeep Wagoneer S platform.

The upcoming Alfa Romeo Stelvio will share the STLA Large platform with the Jeep Wagoneer S, Recon, and Dodge Charger, enabling compatibility with fully electric and hybrid powertrains. This shift means that Maserati will be the final brand to utilize the Giorgio platform that debuted with the previous Giulia and Stelvio models.

In terms of performance, early reports hinted that the high-performance Stelvio Quadrifoglio would transition to full electric, but more recent updates suggest the twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 will remain. This is likely welcome news for Alfa Romeo enthusiasts who value a bit of mechanical excitement. Hopefully, the new Stelvio will also inherit some of the exceptional chassis tuning of the outgoing model, which made it one of the most enjoyable SUVs to drive.

The official unveiling of the new Stelvio is expected in the coming months. It will be positioned above the Junior and Tonale in Alfa Romeo's expanding SUV lineup. Regarding the next Giulia, it is projected to be released in 2026, potentially adopting a more crossover-style fastback design instead of its traditional sedan shape.
