The New Ferrari 296 VS Exudes Strong Viper Sensations | Carscoops
Maranello's hybrid supercar has been observed during testing, and it may boast over 850 hp.
The Ferrari 296 VS has been captured ahead of a potential reveal on April 29. While it is less camouflaged than in previous sightings, the vehicle remains heavily disguised.
It is believed that the car may feature an enhanced powertrain generating more than 850 hp.
Ferrari is developing a more powerful version of the 296, which is anticipated to be revealed later this month. As the reveal date approaches, a new prototype has been spotted undergoing tests in Maranello.
This latest version is wearing less camouflage compared to earlier prototypes, offering a vibe reminiscent of a Viper thanks to a new front ‘bumper’ with horizontal slats. However, it appears that the bumper is merely a decoy, with a splitter concealed behind it. There are also thick cladding and a heavily camouflaged rear section complicating the deciphering of any changes.
Despite the camouflage, previous spy images have hinted at a new front bumper featuring three lower vents at the outer edges. Additionally, it showcases lightweight wheels paired with a carbon ceramic braking system and yellow calipers bearing the Ferrari logo.
The new prototype includes an unusually large rear spoiler, suggesting that the production version might sport an even larger one. Earlier images have also indicated that the car will come equipped with a more aggressive diffuser.
Ferrari has been secretive about the specifics of the 296 VS, yet it's expected to follow the familiar “lighter and more powerful” formula used in the 296 GTB. Anticipate an upgraded powertrain that incorporates a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine, an electric motor, and a modest battery pack.
This configuration allows the GTB to deliver a combined output of 819 hp (610 kW / 830 PS) and 546 lb-ft (740 Nm) of torque, achieving 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 2.9 seconds, with a top speed exceeding 205 mph (330 km/h). If the electric range of a Ferrari is of interest, the 296 GTB can travel 16 miles (25 km) solely on electric power.
The 296 Versione Speciale might debut on April 29, featuring active aerodynamics and over 850 hp (634 kW / 862 PS). Full details will be revealed soon.
