Mazda's investigation into a potential issue with the 2025 MX-5 Miata has resulted in delivery delays for several owners, with some now facing an additional wait of several months before their vehicles arrive.

In recent months, an increasing number of 2025 MX-5 buyers have seen their cars reach their designated U.S. port but not go any further. Hopeful owners have received sporadic or vague updates from their dealerships. Earlier this week, we confirmed the delays with Mazda and have obtained a tentative timeline for a resolution.

A Mazda spokesperson informed The Drive via email, “We are investigating a potential issue with a vehicle control module in certain MX-5s. As a precaution, we have temporarily halted deliveries of the 2025 MX-5s. The Mazda team is working diligently to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.

“Our quality assurance team is conducting a thorough investigation and evaluating the range of vehicles that may be affected. Delivery timelines can vary, but the latest information we have indicates Summer 2025.”

Meanwhile, it seems that many MX-5s will remain in Mazda's holding lots, where any necessary fixes can be performed on affected vehicles before they are sent to dealerships. This should streamline the delivery process for customers, reducing the chances of a vehicle with a faulty part being overlooked.

The positive news is that this issue does not seem to affect every 2025 Miata. Our initial tip came from a customer who ordered a 35th Anniversary model, and after checking Miata.net, it appears he is not alone. However, in that same discussion thread, other members have reported successfully taking delivery of that same trim, suggesting that the issue may relate to specific trims and options, although the exact details remain unclear.
