New Audi Q5 Priced $7K Higher, But Tariffs Aren't to Blame | Carscoops
The new-generation Q5 comes equipped with advanced technology and a V6 engine, delivering enhanced power for the price.
Audi has revealed that the starting price for the redesigned Q5 will be $52,200, reflecting an increase of $6,800 compared to its predecessor.
The automaker clarified that tariffs do not account for this price hike, as they are not transferring these costs to consumers.
The crossover showcases a completely new design, a technologically advanced interior, and an available V6 engine that produces 362 hp.
Last fall, Audi unveiled the new-generation Q5 and has now disclosed U.S. pricing and specifications. When the compact luxury crossover becomes available at dealerships in May, the base price will be $52,200, excluding a $1,295 destination charge.
This is an increase of $6,800 from the previous model, which started at $45,400. With this 15% price hike, the Q5 now exceeds the cost of the BMW X3 and Mercedes GLC.
What Justifies the Price Increase?
Audi did not specify the reasons for the significant price increase, prompting us to inquire whether tariffs were a factor. A spokesperson confirmed that tariffs are not influencing their pricing, stating, “We have not passed on the additional tariffs costs to our customers and will maintain pricing at least until the end of May.”
As for what may happen next, the situation remains uncertain, especially considering the evolving tariff landscape, particularly under the unpredictable Trump administration. Recent reports have indicated that the Q5 could potentially incur three new tariffs, which could amount to a staggering 52.5%.
The spokesperson also mentioned that while imports are currently on hold, they are “continuing to assess the situation to deliver the most appealing product offerings to our customers.”
Beyond tariffs, the 2025 Audi Q5 Premium boasts a sleek, new design featuring a broader singleframe grille flanked by narrow headlights. Buyers will also appreciate the sloping roofline and 18-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, a minimalist aesthetic is evident, with an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.5-inch infotainment screen taking center stage, complemented by leather front seats with eight-way power adjustment. Additional features include illuminated door sills, a 15-watt wireless smartphone charger, and a larger cargo area capable of accommodating up to 56.9 cubic feet (1,611 liters) of luggage.
Audi has not provided a complete list of features, but the base model comes with various standard driver assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and traffic sign recognition.
The powertrain includes a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine offering 268 hp (200 kW / 272 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque. It is linked to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and comes with an all-wheel drive system, enabling the crossover to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (0 to 96 km/h) in 5.8 seconds, ultimately reaching a top speed of 130 mph (209 km/h).
The Q5 Premium Plus starts at $56,700, featuring a subtly updated exterior with larger 19-inch wheels. It also includes a heated steering wheel, head-up display, and a Bang & Olufsen sound system, along with adaptive cruise assist and a bird’s eye camera system.
The Premium Plus trim also introduces a dynamic interaction light bar that stretches across the interior, offering a welcome function and additional visual cues such as a sweeping motion mimicking dynamic turn signals.
The $60,600 Q5 Prestige trim comes equipped with adaptive air suspension, acoustic front door glass, and digital OLED taillights. Customers will also enjoy ventilated front sport seats, heated rear seating, and a 10.9-inch display for the front passenger.
The Q5 Sportback lineup mirrors the standard Q5 but features sportier aesthetics, beginning at $55,900—a $3,700 increase over the previous model. Premium Plus and Prestige trims are available for $58,800 and $62,700, respectively.
SQ5: Performance Comes at a Cost
The SQ5's base price starts at $64,800, reflecting a price increase of $6,400. While not inexpensive, the model sets itself apart with larger air intakes, a more aggressive rear diffuser, and matte chrome accents. It also features a four-tailpipe exhaust system and 20-inch alloy wheels.
Upgrades continue inside with leather and Dinamica upholstery in a diamond-stitched pattern, stainless steel pedals, carbon fiber trim, and a sport steering wheel.
Standard features include a sport-tuned adaptive air suspension and a 3.0-liter TFSI V6 engine producing 362 hp (270 kW / 367 PS) and 406 lb-ft (550 Nm) of torque. Mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and a standard quattro all-wheel drive system, this
