Mercedes has launched the CLA L, which is 1.6 inches longer than the standard version.
This long-wheelbase sedan surpasses the C-Class in size and is equipped with a 268 hp electric motor.
The company also confirmed the introduction of two new vans, designated as the VLE and VLS.
During the ongoing Shanghai Auto Show, Mercedes took the opportunity to reveal the CLA L. As implied by its name, this is a long-wheelbase model specifically designed for the Chinese market.
The sedan builds on the standard CLA but now measures 187.5 inches (4,763 mm) in length and has a wheelbase of 112.8 inches (2,865 mm). Both dimensions increase by 1.6 inches (40 mm), making it longer than the C-Class while sharing the same wheelbase.

Focusing on passenger comfort, the CLA L incorporates a unique rear seat with a cushion extended by 0.4 inches (10 mm) for added leg support. Additionally, the rear seat bolsters are softer, enhancing a balance between comfort and support.
While Mercedes didn’t provide extensive details about the car, it seems to feature a familiar 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14-inch infotainment system, and a 14-inch display for the front passenger. However, these systems operate on a distinct version of MB.OS.
As the company stated, the MBUX Virtual Assistant utilizes local voice talent alongside ByteDance's DouBao AI agent. It also offers navigation and database support tailored for the Chinese market.
The automaker shared limited information regarding the powertrain, noting that the electric vehicle has a rear-mounted motor generating 268 hp (200 kW / 272 PS). It features an 800-volt architecture and boasts a CLTC range of up to 538 miles (866 km). When the battery is low, a 320 kW DC fast charger can provide 230 miles (370 km) of range in just ten minutes.
Mercedes emphasized that the CLA L is the “most efficient car in the segment with 93% energy efficiency from battery to wheels.” They also reported that a prototype managed to travel 665 miles (1,071 km) on a single charge, consuming 8.26 kWh per 100 km (62 miles) at constant speeds during testing.
Mercedes Announces New VLE and VLS
Alongside the long-wheelbase CLA, Mercedes revealed the Vision V concept. While details about that van have already been covered, the company announced two new production models named the VLE and VLS.
The automaker provided few details but indicated that these vans will represent the E- and S-Class within the van category. They will utilize the company’s new van platform and be positioned at the “top-end of its model portfolio.” The company referred to these models as “Grand Limousines,” likely targeting competition with the Lexus LM and Volvo EM90.
