John Deere has produced various large machinery in the past, but this model stands as their largest ever. Named the 9RX 830, it features an 18-liter turbodiesel engine, making it the most powerful tractor from Deere to date. If you're managing thousands of acres that require prompt care, this is the tractor you need.
While Deere’s 9 Series Tractors are not brand new and we don’t frequently discuss agricultural vehicles, a video showcasing the 9RX caught our attention, and we believe automotive enthusiasts would admire the grandeur of this beast. There are three "high-horsepower" models in the 9RX series: the 710, 770, and the most formidable 830. Deere claims these models "can seed with double the cart load on hilly terrain and operate 1 mph (1.6 km/h) faster than our previous 9RX models."
You don’t need to be an expert on tractors to recognize that 830 horsepower and 3,123 lb-ft of torque represent significant power. This immense torque is generated by a JD18 six-cylinder diesel engine, which utilizes a series turbocharger system and weighs 4,672 pounds by itself. Notably, the 21-speed transmission is not included in that weight. Crucially, the 9RX 830 functions without diesel exhaust fluid, meaning that while farmers may require DEF for their Cummins or Power Stroke pickups, it’s unnecessary for their tractors.
The specifications for the 9RX 830 are extensive, extending well beyond the engine details. The hydraulic system is capable of operating at 168 gallons per minute when equipped with the optional triple pump, more than sufficient for most attachments, even those meant for such a towering machine. Its robust build allows it to manage a maximum ballast weight of 84,000 pounds.

I could go on about the spaciousness of the rig’s cab and how John Deere markets it as “autonomous-ready,” but I will refrain. To be fair, without experiencing it firsthand, I can’t provide any insights on operating the 9RX 830. However, I can share the video of one working in a field:
I truly enjoy the Big Tractor Power channel on YouTube.
Anyway, the 9RX 830 appears to be an impressive machine, and with a starting price of $1,226,908, I certainly hope it lives up to expectations. You might find it possible to maintain it yourself, but with a price tag like that, I’d prefer to let the dealer manage any issues.
