Cadillac has announced that the Optiq, its smallest and most budget-friendly electric model, will receive a high-performance V variant for the 2026 model year. This upgraded crossover is anticipated to feature a more powerful powertrain, various chassis improvements, and sportier aesthetics.

As a luxury brand, Cadillac doesn't offer anything considered “cheap,” but the Optiq starts at around $55,000, positioning it as the entry-level model in the lineup. Even the Optiq Sport 2 trim, when equipped with options, falls below $60,000. The next model, the Lyriq, begins at approximately $60,000, while the already-announced Lyric-V has a starting price of $80,000. Therefore, it is reasonable to assume that the Optiq-V will be priced around $70,000, similar to the performance-oriented Hyundai Ioniq 5 N.

While it might seem odd to compare a Cadillac with a Hyundai—the Ioniq 5 certainly is not an outdated 1985 Excel—there are not many four-door sporty electric vehicles available in the U.S. market.

Although the preview images provided by the General Motors-owned brand are dark and tightly framed, some design elements that will set the Optiq-V apart from the Optiq, which is set to launch for 2025, are still visible. The front features a V-specific grille, a unique insert in the lower bumper, and air intake-like trim beside the headlights. It remains uncertain whether these allow air to flow through for brake cooling or if they are simply a design choice reflecting the “high performance” ethos in automotive design.

At the rear, the most noticeable alteration appears to be a carbon fiber spoiler, along with a V-emblem on the right side of the hatch. There is likely more to the Optiq-V that has yet to be revealed, including larger wheels and various interior updates, but we will have to wait for more details. Additional information is expected to be available in early June, as Cadillac plans to hold a media briefing on June 2 to provide updates about the vehicle.

It's reasonable to assume the Optiq-V will offer more power than the standard Optiq, which boasts 300 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. The extent of the power increase Cadillac can achieve remains to be seen, but an output close to 400 hp seems plausible and attainable. The V variant will likely also feature a significantly quicker zero-to-60-mph acceleration time, though it may sacrifice some range.

Cadillac emphasized that the V designation encompasses more than just speed. While specifics are limited, the company indicates that it has designed the Optiq-V to offer “dynamic suspension and precise steering.” We will hold off on forming a judgment until we have the chance to drive one.

More information regarding the Cadillac Optiq-V, including its pricing and availability, will be revealed in the upcoming weeks, with sales set to commence for the 2026 model year. Upon its release, the Optiq-V will join the Lyriq-V in Cadillac’s expanding lineup of performance-focused electric crossovers.
