The new Elgrand is set to make its debut later in 2025 as the production model of the Nissan Hyper Tourer concept.
Nissan is preparing to launch a new generation of the Elgrand minivan in Japan, showcasing futuristic design and a self-charging hybrid powertrain. The new Elgrand will be introduced later this year, with a market introduction planned for 2026 or 2027.
Nissan has released the initial official teasers for the upcoming Elgrand generation, which is expected to feature a forward-thinking design, a comfort-oriented interior, and state-of-the-art hybrid technology, aiming to compete with the Toyota Alphard for the title of Japan's top minivan.
The teaser images suggest a design heavily influenced by the 2023 Nissan Hyper Tourer concept, although the production version will likely be more toned down. The front design includes a split headlight setup with slim LEDs and a grille that is more reserved compared to the previous model. It presents a modern appearance without being overly aggressive.
The profile will maintain the characteristic sliding doors for convenient access to the interior, however, the front doors are expected to operate with a conventional mechanism as opposed to the concept's design. The rear end seems more refined and sculpted than its predecessor, featuring full-width taillights and an integrated roof spoiler for enhanced aerodynamics.
While the interior details have not yet been disclosed, it can be anticipated that the cabin will be spacious. The Elgrand will likely offer various seating arrangements, including a top-tier version with four individual seats for those desiring more legroom than what a first-class experience provides. Additionally, the latest ProPilot driver-assistance system is expected to be included.
The new Elgrand will utilize the third-generation e-Power self-charging hybrid system. This includes a revamped 1.5-liter gasoline engine that functions solely as a power generator, alongside electric motors that drive the wheels. Nissan asserts that this new hybrid will deliver "significant enhancements in quietness and fuel efficiency," while also being lighter.
The previous Elgrand generations were launched in 1997, 2002, and 2010, respectively, with the fourth generation set to debut in late 2025. According to Nissan, its market introduction is slated for the fiscal year 2026, concluding on March 31, 2027.
The outgoing Elgrand starts at ¥4,082,100 ($29,000), serving as Nissan's flagship minivan in Japan, positioned above the smaller Serena and the LCV-based Caravan and NV200 Vanette.
This minivan will be one of four new models that Nissan plans to launch in Japan by 2027, alongside the Leaf crossover, a kei car, and another unidentified vehicle, which may be the Kicks SUV.
The first generation of the Nissan Elgrand was launched in 1997.
